I had an FZR1000 as well, im a light weight and saw 174mph indicated on the speedo once, private road of course, scared the willys out of me when I considered my bike was 12 years old at the time 
I have only ever been faster once, and that was in a Porsche Carrera GT at the Nordschleife doing 300km/h, that was exciting stuff bouncing along on the bump stops I can tell ya lol....
