I did ponder this very question whilst on my VXR trackday at Rockingham before I purchased my VXR8, wonder where all these cars are destined to go after being thrashed and abused at these track days ??

I drove 4 different VXR8's at Rockingham that day, so there is potentially at least 4 thrashed and abused VXR8's floating around somewhere, not to mention the scores of other VXR cars they brought along to the track that day, Astra's , Corsa's etc.....

OT:

I really enjoyed the Astra and Corsa actually..........decent pocket Rockets for sure, and IMHO an Astra would easily live with the VXR8 on tight B roads in the right hands, very nice cars even if the brakes were not up to the job, all of the cars I drove which were not VXR8's had juddering brakes, fading etc.....all the VXR8's I drove were just fine with no aparant brake problems.

A Heron white "8" I drove on the day.......wonder where that one is now, and under what pretence it was sold ?

Do we think they maybe sold all those cars as low mileage ex demonstrators after replacing the brake discs/pads and tyres etc ??

Has anyone here ever bought a car from Vauxhall thats been previously used as a VXR trackday car maybe ?? if so how was it sold to you ?

When I asked last year, the staff told me that all would be scrapped - what a waste! (if that is what happened to them)

Ive heard that line before from other manufacturers, would doubt its true as its a bloomin expensive exercise of showing people cars!

Only true way to find out would be to write down the chassis number of the car and HPi it at a later date and see whats happened to it!

Probably flogged off to some of the executives at hugely reduced rates !! Can't see they would ever just scrap them ? Stick them through the auction and get rid of them maybe but not scrap them.

Depends if they are pre production models which they might be. Non type approved so unregisterable, used for a year then scrapped. I know of a bunch of ISF's that are no longer with us...

Would personally be wary of buying any lowish mileage ex 'vauxhall management' vxr8.

I expect they will all be sold through the dealer network.

Merc do that with the AMG's they use at Brooklands. Said they service them fully and swap disks and pads etc so no lasting effect on the vehicle.

I was told that all the cars were pre-production mules (hence the basic spec) so I assume they're re-used each year until killed.

Don't know about the Corsa's and the Astra's, but pre-production VXR8's would only exist in OZ, production cars only would be imported into UK.

What was basic about the spec of the car?

They only come in one trim level, with the only factory options being auto and sat nav.

Amazes me what some folk will accept as correct.
