Having waxed my car the other car, not had it long, my brother said 'you'll need to keep it waxed to stop the dreaded Vauxhall red paint fade'. This got my wondering as to where the big friendly Ozzy (mine is fully badged as a Holden) was built? If they were built in Oz, you would assume they use paint which isn't going to fade in the sunshine.....

Anyway, can anyone throw any light on the topic for me?

Little known fact as well, the Paint spraying equipment at Port Elisabeth was bought off Honda back in the 90's.

They're made at the Holden plant in Elizabeth near Adelaide. Tell your brother that the only thing made by Vauxhall on the cars were the badges. Although you dont have that problem now

Cars have 7 year rust guarantee - none here are that old yet. The only mentions of any rust I have heard of are underneath as a result of the lack of 'UK strength' undersealing and corrosive anti ice products used on UK roads - not a problem where the cars come from.

Are you talking about the GM plant at Port Elizabeth, South Africa, or the Holden plant at Elizabeth, South Australia?

All Monaros were treated to the same proofing treatment as the Canadian bound product from Port Elisabeth , so its effectively got the same treatment as any european car. Cars brought in prior to this were not and are prone to some areas of rust.

Interesting. Thats not quite what we have been lead to believe scratchchin

I assume you mean things like the Holden GTS's, etc, by 'earlier' - heard they can get rusty if not looked after.

Well not sure who told you what but thats the case. Apart from getting the car type approved via the Japan VCA so making our job easier the other big item was the corrosion protection. We happened to coincide our programme with another export programme and so made it viable.
Any Holden brought in prior to this (mainly by Rod I think)had regular 'local' treatment . Which was mostly thick paint and some wax.

Not that i am disagreeing with Stu (which im not for 1 minute and hope he is right about the rust protection) but here is another typical example of stories surrounding the Ro's... There seem to be a lot who think they know something different to somebody else, what do we believe??? tumbleweed The thread about rust protection has been covered before and the majority said the Ro should be re-under sealed as the original protection is ScensoredT... If they don’t need doing then somebody is making big Dollar for FcensoredK all!!!
