Burning Smell Supercharged Monaro
Discussion
Chaps,
1st posting here although regularly read the contributions. Just encountered a bit of a problem and hope you guys can give me some insight.
I have a supercharged Monaro VXR 2007 which I have just taken on a fairly spirited drive in Normandy. Towards the end of the drive, there was a really bad smell of burning that seemed to follow a change from 6th to 5th. I think there was a slight loss of power at the time in 5th as well. Headed home and the loss of power was not apparent, engine temperature was fine but the smell of burning rubber was constant.
I have a suspicion that the culprit is a hose that runs into the back of the dashboard from the engine bay as it seems to have turned a bronze colour (burning?).
History: car was supercharged by Walkinshaw in April along with fitting of quickshifter, AP brakes, uprated bushes and quick rack. Everything was great until I noticed that the face vents no longer supplied cold air. I took the car to the local Vauxhall dealership who said that some hoses had been cut (presumably as part of supercharging although Walkinshaw say not). To solve the problem the Vauxhall dealership reattached some hoses and the air con worked accordingly. One thing I have noted is that under acceleration, the air con does not enter the cabin until such time as you come off the gas, at which point the cool air returns (I had presumed that it was related to the intercooler). Can anybody let me know if this is normal please? The reason I ask is because I ran the car without the air con on today and thought that this might have contributed to the hoses burning (if indeed they are the problem).
Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi mate, not sure about your burning but under acceleration the Aircond is disabled by design. Its controlled in the ECU and IIRC is based on TPS.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
