Here's a conundrum. Should most insurance companies recognise the VXR500 (one of the original ones) as an unmodified car, or does it have to go down as a modified Monaro VXR?

Although it sounds petty I bet it makes a difference to the price of the quote. I spoke to Adrian Flux and they didn't have the VXR500 on their records, so they quoted me for a Monaro + modified with supercharger, ripshifter, suspension, exhuast, brakes etc, and as a result I think it's a tad more expensive than it should be.

Can anyone advise please? smile

Its a modified VXR. The number made would not constitute a production run in the eyes of an insurance company and it will never be formally listed as a model for the same reason, only reference in the text possibly of a very limited run of VXR500. Think yourself lucky, mines official and they only made one of them!

As a STD VXR500 ONLY had a HH112 supercharger as original equipment anyway, you`ll still be looking for modified insurance for all the other bits

Ahh okay thanks, I thought the ripshifter etc were standard on it as well.

Seeing as though it's the SC which puts the biggest hike on the premium it still might be worth a go!

I was just thinking that, if the car left the Vauxhall dealers with those mods, then it could/should be classed as standard. No harm in trying!

Depending on your age of course, you`ll get insurance for sub £800.00.

And if you are over 40 A Plan will love you

Well my quote was £1,250.

I'm 31, held licence for 13 years and have 13 years no claims, fairly rural post code. Don't spose that's too terrible, though it's a fair jump up from my old car! (which was also group 20 and highly modified).

Going to phone around a few places this week, I'm hoping to pick car up either this Saturday or the following week at the latest smile

Its funny I thought A Plan didn't like modified cars ?? I'me sure they turned me down because of a few simple mods.

(I'm 40 BTW with a clean license and no history of claims !!)

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) has the VXR500 listed as a Dealer (Greens) created special limited edition and hence is treated for insurance purposes as a Modified Monaro VXR 6.0. This is despite the fact that Vauxhall were happy to underwrite the warrantees on the cars.

To be able to benefit from Non-Modified status for Insurance purposes, Vauxhall would have had to have built the cars to the VXR500 specification from scratch or sought whatever homologation / type approval or standard Insurance rating for the model (which Vauxhall didn't do for the VXR500 as the original VXR500 was limited to the one dealership). Even if they had, I am certain the Insurance group categorisation/loadings would have been higher than those for a standard Monaro VXR in any case.

Nope. Bathurst and Bathurst S both listed as standard models.

Could the difference be that , the VXR500 was modified by a dealer and a tuner (with VX blessing) and the Bathurst models are modified by the manufacturer - Walkinshaw/HSV.

I have mine insured with Adrian Flux. When I first called them they said that they had it listed (unlike 6 or 7 other companies I called) and I just needed a tracker and some proof of my ability for handling a car of that power (I had Brands Hatch and Silverstone performance car driving/rally school certificates). Still with AF today. Being a bit grey in the hair-area also helps the premium a bit!

Just had a quote from Admiral - Bathurst S fully comp £498 - not sure I'll bother looking anywhere else! And yes it was listed separately.

Almost fell off my chair - cheaper than my current unmodded Monaro..... I guess there is a benefit associated with the fact that the Bathurst is listed rather than being treated as modified. And not yet the wrong side of the big 40....

This insurance business is just such a load of bollox. I've been trying to insure my Ro with a Wortec Performance Pak, AP's and rippy and Admiral wanted over £1200. How does that work? I'm in a good area, garaged, 9 years no claims and I'm 45 ffs! Yet they want under £500 from you. I mean good luck to you, but sheesh, I'm frustrated!

I got my quote from the Meerkats - dunno if that makes a difference? Also have not devlared the extras of Ehxhasut and 20" wheels. Not sure if you need to declare items of an option list? (As these two are...)
