Hello. I'm finally returning after I sold my VXR 2 yrs ago, as a potential new owner of a new manual VXR8 Bathurst. I figured I had to sieze the opportunity to further expand my carbon footprint before we're all hugely taxed on it.

So, the question is.. Supercharger or not? and if so what/who do people recommend?

Secondly, does a Bathurst S have to be officially converted by Mr.Walkinshaw?

Any finally, perhaps a rhetorical question, but will I recover any of the additional expense on the charger/exhaust/headers/ECU etc if I sell after 12 months?

I imagine these are frequent topics of debate, so apologies for duplication, but thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm looking for a VXR8 at the moment with min base spec + Wortec kit (exhaust). There are only 2 Bathurst S I know of for sale and they are circa £38k. I think it would be wise to try and find a £23k example and add the bits yourself - I can see these £38k examples loosing £10k in just over a year and I'm not sure its worth that kind of loss at the moment..

I had the same dilema when I bought mine, but the lack of 3 year warranty on the S (you only get a year on engine and drivetrain) in what is my daily 20k mile a year hack swung it in favour of the NA car. May go down the charger route in a year or so though.

Im not sure if it will be an "official" Bathurst S if you buy the Bathurst and then have it converted in the future though. My dealer recons they will do it but Im not convinced.

ps you'll never get your money back on mods, just do it and enjoy the car.

The Bathurst S has the old 122 supercharger and you'd have to be mental to pay 38k for one. Much better to buy an LS3 VXR8 and then fit a TVS 2300 for £6.5k

Monkfish are charging £7295for their TVS 2300. That's only £795 more than the cheapest and IMO you get what you pay for. Money well spent if that's the route you want to make. There are people doing the install for less you cant beat Monkfish for after sales. They are IMO the best

I believe Rapid GB are still the only authorised Magnusson agents in the UK. I have have a TVS fitted to my car and they were 6.5k the last time I looked.

You can go elsewhere and pay more if you want to.

I spoke with Walkinshaw today and I was told that they fit the new generation supercharger (wp190), and the warranty is 3 years. This is apparently the only genuine Bathurst s, where as other versions are just modded STD models.

Contraversial?

Also, a Bathurst is £29k now (new) so £35.5k is not a huge saving.. Approx £900.

Who does that? I'm not sure a turbo suits a big displacement engine.. Just my opinion. Most reliable turbos are 6 or 4 cyl are they not?

Not too fussed about being grown up, just had an rs4 for 2 years, and as the vxr8 could never compete around corners, I figured it might as well beat it from the lights...

Dont get me wrong the SC is good and gives a right kick very quick, turbo is smoother and alot quieter and ultimately easier to dial up or down in the power stakes.
