Finally changed that whining PAS pump and rusty rack pipe and what a difference to the sound of the car and it only took me a couple of hours to do on the drive. Big thanks to Monkfish for sourcing the parts and putting up with me trying to explain what pipe it was LOL.
One thing to bear in mind that almost caught me out is when changing any of the high pressure pipes you will need new 'O'rings for the ends of the pipes as the old ones get very flat.

Also had the gearbox oil replaced with Royal purple yesterday while in for its service and guess what happened this morning???

It went into reverse first time like a hot knife through butter :-)

I had bought five litres for the box but my garage handed back one of the litre bottles because they couldn't get anymore in there. I had the diff oil done beginning of the year with royal purple. Just as well as I was told the sump plug was loose and the old oil was abit grey/silver.

Mike did your garage use the filler hole on the side or did they remove the sensor plug at the top and fill it from there? If they didnt use the sensor hole then you've probably not got a complete fill. If you used Monkfish/RapidGB then you'll be okay but a local garage may not have known about the correct procedure.

Nah I just asked them to change the gearbox oil and left the oil in the boot for them so they won't be aware of any special filling techniques.

I'm a bit curious as to why you'd want to overfill the gearbox oil though? If it's got a fill point on the side then surely that's as much as it needs. or is there something different about these boxes?

Correct procedure is to overfill through the reverse light switch by 1/2 litre. Purpose is to reduce gear chatter at low rpm high gear situation.

see I knew there was a reason for putting more in through a hole other than the fill one

Lol, cheers guys.

I'll leave it for now until I'm underneath it with the wax oil. At least the oils there ready to go in.

Old, but funny. Not suitable for work!!!
