Been trying a 5w-40 in my LS2 to see if it helps with oil consumption which seems a common problem with the low friction piston rings.
Also my oil brand of choice until very recently didn't do a 10w-30 or equivalent.
No issues, and I get slightly better oil pressure.
Oil choice is very subjective though. Your generally safe with any fully synthetic around these ranges, personally I go for an Ester based fully synthetic due to their better film strength. I'm currently using Silkolene Pro-S, Royal Purple is also Ester based and is what Monkfish use. 10w-30 is the official grade IIRC.

mmmmmmmm, my LS2 doesnt use any really about 1/4 liter from service to service. and i drive it like i stoll it everytime i drive it, but i never boot it until the engine is at running temp.
Do you rev it high before its got hot?

Seems to use a bit still (got 1-7/8" headers and high-flow cats if that make a difference)
It certainly was ingesting a bit through the PCV system. Fitted a catch can which is seeing a small puddle at oil changes.
Read a lot on the US forums about LS2's having oil consumption issues, putting it down to one of those things for now.
Keep meaning to pull the plugs and do a compression test to make sure nothings badly amiss.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that mine did not need the odd cupful. But de- cat pipes have not adversely affected the amount, and I can't see how they would really. But I'm open to offers?
yeah i agree, why would the flow of exhaust gases out of the engine effect oil comsumption?

Well you must have posted up for a reason Andy. I take it yours has started using more then?[/quote

My stock LS2 used zip oil. The guy who bought it got a good engine!
Current stroker chews a bit, but not too much. Seems to be reducing as she wears in... at present it uses none. (Its lying dead in the fish tank)
I used to own a Landcruiser. It stopped using oil at 60000, so I suppose it had just finished running in?Current stroker chews a bit, but not too much. Seems to be reducing as she wears in... at present it uses none. (Its lying dead in the fish tank)
