Hello all. I am new to all this forum stuff so i`ll apologise now for any breaches of etiquette !
I have an 05 Monaro 5.7 v8. The problem is that after running it low on petrol and then being off the road for a couple of weeks, i had to take the battery off to charge it. When i put the battery back on the fuel gauge read very low on petrol, i filled her up but the gauge did not change. The read out still tells me i`m very low and the needle on the fuel gauge does lift up to the empty mark but refuses to rise any further irrespective of how much juice is in it !
I have put a Tech 2 diagnostics on it and all "seems" to be well at the dashboard, so i`m guessing it`s in the tank ? Has anyone had similar experiences of this problem ?
Thanks in advance and i look forward to talking in the future.
Steve.

So can you check the petrol sender value on the Tech 2?

I think the fuel sender info comes up on the dash displays when in 'test' mode. I can't remember how to display it, but I'm sure somebody here knows.

Ok, thanks for that, i think i read on one of "magic919" `s other threads about bringing up the test sequence..I`ll go and press some buttons !!What harm can it do ???. It does display the 30,000 mile service reminder at the moment as well so i might be able to get rid of that too.
I also read on here somewhere about someone who had the same problem and they just disconnected the battery and it sorted itself. Well i`ve tried that with no joy.
Thanks for the response so far, i`m looking forward to learning a bit on here!

Try disconecting the battery for 20mins or so and see what happens.
This will erase all fault codes in the ecu and may or maynot solve the fuel gauge problem.

Sounds like the float arm is stuck down. Had that on mine once after running it very low for a while but it freed itself after a short time and never had a problem since...?

I was hoping someone might bring it back to old style mechanics. My initial thought coming from bikes was that after running it low on juice and then having it stand for a couple of weeks may have caused some light corrosion on the float pin which possibly caused it to stick but i was`nt sure if it used that sort of system.
Although i have tried bouncing the back end and driving it exuberantly !!
Cheers.

Try the diagnostics mode and you should see 240/255, for example, if the sender is working.

I have just filled up again and sod me, it`s working ok !
I have a tendency to gravitate towards vehicles that do what they like when they like...Looks like i`ve found another one, though i have had it just over a year and it`s sort of behaved `till now.
Thanks to everyone thats tried helping me and i`m looking forward to getting out on one of the runs soon !!
Cheers all.
Steve.
