Was I reading somewhere that the type of tarmac on runways is a unique type compared to the stuff found on our roads and isnt too kind on road tyres?

Curious as need 2 new tyres but dont want to change them before the track day if the surface is going to destroy the tyres!

The Surface will not destroy your tyres!!!!

FACT - New Tyres will actually give you a better top speed, owing to the increased tread depth, and therefore rolling radius...albeit a few Mph.

Maybes destroy was a strong word! Still debating to change them before or after, still a good 3mm on them and dont really want to throw them away with that amount of tread on!

Best thing to do is get them changed, and hold on to old tyres. Give Monkfish a ring or any of the dealers and see if there is a spare set of rear wheels lying around(from 20" upgrade) and stick the old tyres on them for 1/4 drag/drift/track day......

Didn`t notice any untoward tyre wear on Sophs Astra after 14 runs at Woodbridge.

(BTW runways are made of just about everything from concrete to gravel compacted into snow.)

If anything a tarmac runway is easier on tyres as its much more densely compacted.

Actually some runways I've seen around are in worse condition than most Brittish roads,- even here in Europe frown
What they do in some places is to groove it. Basically just lots of 3-4mm deep furrows across and I think that can be a little hard on tyres. It's very good for draining though.

Yeah, you do go to some toilet places.

We`ve got a few too, but they`re toilet too.
