Hi all.... I want to buy a Monaro around about 12k price, what are the major things I should be looking out for, is it better to go for the 6.0 or 5.7?

regards Mick.

For £12k you'll limit yourself to the 5.7, which is by no means a slow car! It depends what your after, and if you prefer the 6.0 as a car either looks or what's under the skin. Personally I'd say look for one that has a catback exhaust fitted often referred to the sport pack, and anything else on top is a bonus.

Word of warning about the 6.0 though, if you need a big boot opt for the 5.7.

I just had a quick look on eBay and found 2 bargains... unless I'm missing something?

ON the Monaro advert (Above) he claims...

"This fantastic car returns 28-30 mpg (and does so whilst cruising effortlessly on the motorway at 70mph) and even around town does 21-23 mpg. "

What the hell am I doing wrong? I get 21-24 cruising on the motoray and 17 about town! Maybe it's my heavy right shoe that makes the difference!

Same here. If I drive like a nun I can get it to 25mpg. Probably seen that 3 times in 4 years ownership.

Its not just yousmile ours is the same;) 28-30mpg rofl
on the motorway I would easily get 28-30 or more in the Ro. Even the (superior) VXR8 with its (correct) gearing will return a fairly steady 24mpg at 90 on cruise on the autobhans. That made Tim cry that did

What a great response forum :-) one of the questions was going to be, what is the average mpg on the 5.7

also I have been lookin at insurance, Saga (yes I know I am 50) what the hell :-) they are quoting £396 a year or with month instalments at £33.04 with no interest, which seems quite good, or is there other places to try?

also some of the insurance co are asking for a tracker device, what is the cost of one of them? saga only asked if it had an imobiliser and alarm.

check out Direct Line, I'm considerably younger than you old timer and they quoted 390 for my VXR8 but I have a house and other car with them but worth a look, as are Greenflag and A-plan

Real world mpg combined would be between 18 to 22 (lot of town driving) or 23 to 25 with motorway, on motorway you get a good range from the tank, pure town you'll get about 18.
