So... todays lesson is dont show off to an unmarked police car banghead

For Milton Keynes based people this took place on the Stoke Hammond bypass

Coming up to this lovely dual carriageway is a short bit of dual uphill before a right turn on to the main drag. 8.15am this morning, not too busy but a few cars on the inside going up the hill - i give it a little bit of gas and pass them, dropping in infront of a metallic grey 08 Passat. Noted them glance over as i went by (at which point i'm thinking, dont try it in your rep-mobile).

In true Grand Prix style after a restart i slightly backed the pack up as i turned onto the main dual carriage way with the Passat behind me and a Corsa in front - pulled neatly into the outside line in Second and hammered it - oh yes first time since i've had i truly opened her up. Damn it was impressive, not long before i've romped off down the hill at a touch over 125 somethings (yes i know i shouldnt have) - i now thinking to myself bet your impressed with that to the Passat guys until i look in my mirror and see the alternating flashing headlights.

At this point my whole driving license flashed before me

Immediately slowed to 65 and pulled into the layby. Got out in advance - saw no point in being funny or difficult. Plain clothes policeman comes over, with a bit of a grin and proceeded with...

"Fast car, Fast Road, dont make an idiot of yourself and get nicked - they usually have vans down here, just a friendly warning" - and off he went.

Rest of my journey far more un-eventful and all well within the speed limit

Heart was racing for the next 20 mins - i guess it was relief...

So thats taught me, and i never do that again

I drive that road every day to work...

They are regularly running up and down it in one thing or another (usually Vectras with caravan extender mirrors on)... the camera vans sit shooting you as you top the brow of the hill in both directions, they've also had people on bridges in the past.

Lovely lovely stretch of road.

Oh and don't think night time makes you safe either, as the MR2 and BMW 5 driver found out the other night as they barreled past me well into the 3 figured leptons up the hill. Only to find a guy with a portable camera shooting up the hill and an army of cars/bikes waiting at the roundabout.

Glad you got a good one and nothing more than wrist slap. Save it for Thunder Road wink

Lucky boy!

I've had a talking to before when I had my VX220. There's a nice corner on the way home with a restricted speed limit, despite it being a national limit road overall. While the VX only had as much power as a cordless drill you never have to slow down, ever, for anything, I'm serious. So I gleefully nailed it around this corner with the car clinging on like a limpet.

To my surprise I then noticed an Astra 1 foot from my rear. Thinking I clearly wasn't trying hard enough, I then prepared to give it death when the road opened up...

...and then the blue flashies come on

Thankfully I was let go with a bollocking, if he'd wanted to be nasty he'd have waited until I'd gunned it away from the corner.

It's a horrible sick feeling you get seeing those lights isn't it! Being made to give your documents in to a police station is no fun either, pretty humiliating.

I had something similar once where, after taking my details, said "enjoy your car, but don't take the piss Sir", and let me off. One of those moments where it really pays to be polite and respectful! smile

Had a similar experience with an unmarked Skoda & he intimated that I should know better, pointing at the PH decals on the side windows, I agreed with him & said thank you for taking no further action in a very humble and unassuming manner only to see him overtake me soon after rejoining the M27 at a similar speed to my overtaking manoeuvre past him.

And I bet that has had just as much affect as 3 points and a fine. Take it steady fella.

That kind of old school warning goes along way and makes you respect the BIB, rather than a NIP on your doormat and everyone slating the police.

Had a similar thing coming back from Oktoberfest, as did the stretch from Frankfurt to Newcastle in one hit. Hit the UK roads, and thought, an just sit on 70 on the way back, cause was completely knackered. Two idiots thought that I wanted to race, but couldn't be bothered as they were in chav mobiles. They floored it, and right behind me, both times was an unmarked car. Once was down near Peterborough, the other up this way.

Was not in the mood for police, as we got pulled over 3 times in Munich. All because they think that all australian's do drugs, and drink drive. They were bitterly disappointed when I said, go and check out Interpol, and you will find out that I am ex customs.

All round was a bitch of a trip for traffic. Did 2700 miles, used 560 litres of fuel, and drove for over 50.5 hours. Most of the time was spent idle in traffic at road works, seems like half of Germany is doing road works at the moment.

Plain Clothes boys aren't usually interested in doing any Process work - nice to see officers operating some discretion, all too rare these days!

I must admit, I've always found the constabulary much less tolerant than in the experiences described.

If the cops really wanted to keep us all honest on the roads they would do it by patrolling in full livery as a deterrant. Unmarked cars are there for one reason only, and that's to sneakily catch you unawares.

Shame the cops didn't put as much effort into looking after that poor woman and her daughter in Leicestershire, who felt she had no option but to kill herself and her daughter after being hounded by local scumbags for years. Continual calls for help from BIB resulted in nothing. Their lives must have been hell for them to do that.

That's the trouble with this country, no focus on the real criminals. (Including the bloody politicians), just go for the soft targets.

There is just no pleasing some people is there!
We patrol in unmarked police cars to catch criminals, thats what thames Valley police use them for, im sure you have seen road wars, thats our traffic department.
Criminals spot a marked car a mile off, but it gets us a bit closer to them because its covert.
So a plain car stops a normal member of the public, lets him off for doing almost twice the speed limit for which he would have been banned etc etc etc and you still bash us.
I do get more respect from the bloody criminals!

What do we have to do?

Damned if you do, damned if you dont - i'm extremely grateful to the guys today that let me off, and am an advocate of unmarked cars for the exact reasons you say.

Unfortunately you'll get far more press for things that have happened in Leicestershire than you'll ever get for what happened to me today.

You probably do because it's the real criminals that get a slap on the wrist and let off.

You can't convince me that BIB don't see us motorists as soft quota targets for revenue raising just like the bloody government.

I mean, I even saw a traffic warden patrolling some of the back streets in our town recently ticketing locals cars................On Sunday at 4.00pm. How much respect can activity like that get?

Any way nothing personal to you Mate, it's the system. The real reason I posted is that regardless of the story in the OP cops like that I believe are in the minority, most of them see us as score card fodder.
