Dismantling wing mirrors - possible ?

I have THE most annoying rattle/squeek coming from the drivers wing mirror - this is obviously an absolute pain as i spend a lot of the time with the window down for obvious reasons

Has anyone dismantled a mirror before - is it possible without breaking the glass ?

Its on a 6.0 VXR if there's a difference between models

Any advice appreciated.

You can lever the mirror bit off with a twist of a screwdriver.
