Newbie here...Hello

Recently bought a VXR8 and considering a Wortec Sport Pack or similar, but prefer the Wortec pipes.

I did contact Pentagon (Monfish and Pentagon are probably the closest to me) and they were at least £300 cheaper than anyone else 3 weeks ago when I got the car but after I come back off holiday and looked again at their website they were exactly the same as everyone else at £2278.11 albeit with 5% online discount. Has anyone got this package at a better price? I know I'm being tight but when I could have had it at least £300 cheaper 3 weeks ago I'm a bit ermmm gutted to have to pay more now.

What does the cold air intake give you anyway, noise and/or performance?

Be gentle...

Cold air intake just gives the engine more cold air. No noise gains. Are you going for headers as well? Saying that the headers on the new VXR8's are good. Anyway i would recommend Wortec. For sound, quality and performance (recently had the Performance pack from the Fish)
I can also highly recommend Monkfish. They've carried out all of the work on our pride and joy and they are brilliant.
Cant speak for anywhere else as i've never used anyone else.
Wortec are pricey but you get what you pay for

Cheers, so the cold air intake will presumably give a slight power gain then. Is the extra power gain with this and the remap worth £1000 over the ettential pack which is just cat back exhaust and filter?

The graphs on the Wortec site show the claimed gains. Who can say whether any of this is 'worth it'?

The Wortec kit is very expensive but convenient. I saved a bundle on my exhaust over the Wortec kit for example, but I had to get it shipped from Oz. Some others have gone the custom made route and paid a lot less.
It is well made from what I've seen though. And all you have to worry about is dropping your car to the local reseller.
I imagine the end price you pay to a degree is controlled by Wortec as the suppliers. Only variance should be labour rates for fitting.

Essential pack is just cat back with K&N filter £1299.74
Sports Pack which includes engine remap and performance air intake system £2278.11)

If you are thinking in the future of going Performance pack which is the full system its cheaper in the long run to get that done in one go.

Performance pack £4105.

If you get Sports pack and upgrade to performance pack it will cost you £4450.

That's £335 saving getting the best at the beginning.

Hope you understandsilly

I probably wouldn't go for the performance pack but would have gone for the Sport pack but like you pointed out its around £1k difference just for the remap and CAI.

I may contact Sewards as they were offering the Wortec cat back, filter, remap and lowering kit for £2k, iirc.

A cold air intake should be on anyones priority list.

Cold air is a pre-requisite for good engine performance, and some intakes can be noisier than stock.

Is it worth £1k with a remap though?

I'll have a few more chats with the Wortec dealers before I decide.

Hi Mel if you want switchable you can add another £595 as I found out once I had booked and paid deposit, thought I was getting a bargain like us women do!

Can you share the detail, price, where to buy etc for the exhaust you ordered?

Darren DiFillipo (? spelling) is a popular, highly rated Oz exhaust/header manufacturer that RapidGB deal with. You can go direct and possibly save a few quid more if you can organise your own carriage - they wouldn't do that for you on one off purchases when I spoke to them a year or two back. Might be easier just to get Mark to add one to his next order and pay any commission fee he's adding. If going down that route and adding headers ask about the ceramic coating costs at same time. Still think next time I change exhaust though I'll get someone local to make one up for me and just import a set of headers. With VXR8 though I believe that factory exhaust is pretty good so unless you're planning major upgrades along with the exhaust you're pretty much paying for more noise - thats then down to personal preference what you like or can live with and very subjective so you need to listen to a few different options before making a decision. What someone else loves you could really hate with a passion.

Cold air intakes - think most of us would accept that the OTRCAI versions are the most effective, there's plenty evidence from both Oz and US of their gains when the car is properly mapped. Problem is they arent cheap and if you later go down the supercharged route they may not "fit" so careful research is the order of the day. Expect to pay 300-500 quid plus carriage and duty for the "best" versions from Oz or US. Believe the wortec option is not an OTRCAI but an improved version of the stock system - can't comment on how close it is to performance claims for the OTRCAI but it should be compatible with any later upgrades such as superchargers as it mounts in the stock position.

Remaps - 4 options, first one - DIY and ringrams the man to speak to about this if you want advice but be prepared for more techno babble speak than the human brain is capable of dealing with, more acronyms than you get working in IT and equations/calculations that would tax Einstein, second one - wortec dealer (believe wortec staff themselves go to dealer and do mapping but dont quote me on this) your car will be loaded with a standard map and then fine tuned to its optimum on a road test which its claimed is the best method as the car is being setup for real conditions - its probably the most common choice of owners on here with Monaros, third choice - go and see Mark at RapidGB, generally a "cheaper" option (hate using that expression but generally speaking he does charge less so how else do you express it without implying lower quality which his work certainly isnt) ,main difference is car will be setup on a rolling road so remap will be tweaked across the whole range of operating conditions, some of which you could not do on a road (certainly not legally) - better for peak power output (pub boasting)- maybe, for everyday driving probably not much in it. Fourth and final option would be Walkinshaw - pretty much like having the factory tweak your car to all intents as they are so closely linked to HSV.
