Hello

Is there a thread on here that discusses headlight bulb fitments (i.e. H7,H9,H11) and how to gain access to swap them for something a little more illuminating? I've seen the "HID" threads but they're illegal.. I'd just like a little more warning of life-threatening dangers when the sun is absent.. like 4.40am Tuesday morning on the M1 when a HGV lost it's tyre and missed me by inches whilst doing 70ish in the 3rd lane..drivingeekyikeswith only 162 miles on my shiny new cash-siphon. I'd spent £800 on stone-chip protection just hours earlier.. could have proven to be an ironic waste of cash.

I'm thinking just swapping for Phillips X-Tremes but wasn't sure how easy access is for both low/high bulbs.

Any help appreciated.

open the bonet and have a look, cant say i find the standard set up poor, they are good. Not same clarity as the s2000 but the lights are good.

I've done that.. Fuse box in the way on the offside, airfilter unit nearside. I've had bi-xenons on my previous cars, the r8's are pants in comparison. Full-beam is fine, dipped is poor.

Thanks for the response tho, I was beginning to think I'd have to ask what county you're in before anyone responded... irked

I thought the headlights on my R8 were really good, however, they cannot fail to impress me after the terrible headlights on my old 5 Series E60 !!!! now those were pants !

Why not fit sum h.i.d.xenon head light systems 6000k. I have them fitted to my
vxr8 and my vw van and they work a treat. Must be at least 3 times better than standard.
And they look cool. I have the 8000k fitted in my van.

I thought retro fitting hids were technically illegal as you also need high pressure washer jets and an auto leveling system

The hid xenon car lamp being manufactured in the company's top international technology and has been pushed into the worldwide market. at the same time I want to tell you that our products have passed the ISO9001, 2000 certification, and have got the e-mark, rohs, tuv approved .we have win many customers worldwide because of our high quality, competitive price and great after sale service. xxxxx. (high intensity discharge) kits have become one of the best personal investments in car accessories. I believe we will have even more customers in the future.

The way i read it as long as they have the e-mark they seem to be legal. Or is it yet another grey area?
I have had them fitted to all the work vans to make the lights better.

Ive got a 4200k HID kit on my R8. Huge improvement over the relatively poor standard dip.

Cant see any halagon replacement bulb being much of an improvement to be honest, so hid is the only realistic option.

BTW as the R8 features projector lamps as standard there are no refraction issues that you get with conventional reflectors that have been designed for halagon lamps.

In terms of getting the bulbs out, Im sure its in the manual. If its not, all you do is take the slam panel off and the pull up the washer and coolant neck tubes out which makes access a little easier smile
