I want to remove the cubby box under the stereo, the one that has the push to open door, my sat nav would fit in the opening perfectly, I have just tried to pull at tug at it but it will not come out, has anyone ever taken it out?

You need to pull the complete surround off to get this out from memory, not difficult but it will take half an hour the first time you do it. Do a search and you should find a thread about it. Basically you pop out the top clocks set by pulling them out (clipped in), then remove the surround where the handbrake is, afain a press clip fit and then remove the two securing scews where the top clocks were and the two screw where the base of the front surround goes. Ive a feeling you will need to pop the sterio out as well. Once the surrounds outta the way you will see the two screws holding the cubby in place.

PS - you might be able to get to these screws without doing the above...? cant check for you as Rapid has my car! frown

Complicated the first time cos you don't know what you are doing. I did mine again the other week to install my satnav (not like yours but one integrated into the stereo that I'd already installed) and it only took perhaps 3-4 mins to get it all out.

Just take it easy and it's straight forward enough.

And do it as per instructions that S800vxr gave? does the stereo pull out easy with the 4 pins pushed in?

The stereo I think does have to come out as the whole surrond has to come out. It is quite hard to remove initially. We tried the old coathanger trick but you really need stronger rod! The tools are for sale on ebay. The ones in Oz come from a stereo installer who helpfully sends the whole dash removal instructions with it.

Just checked for you - above is pretty much it, but here you go:

- Pop the top clocks - just gently lift them - they are held in place by two pop things.
- Remove one screw in the key tray just under the cubby hole.
- Lift the arm rest and prise off the plastic piece that surrounds the handbrake/gearlever. Start from the back and it comes up easily. You will need to disconnect the window switch connectors as well (not 100% necessary but makes things easier as you can then move it right out of the way).

Next is the centre console surround.
I'm not sure if you need to remove the stereo before doing this bit - I've not got a standard stereo in (haven't had for nearly three years) so can't remember. (I don't have to with my replacement one, but it might be different).

- Remove two screws up where the gauges are.
- Remove two screws at the bottom of the console - one either side around where the cubby hole is.
- Surround lifts up and out from the bottom first.

The centre console should now lift forward and bob's your uncle.

Have fun!
