Hi All,

I've got an LS1 engine in a Cobra Replica that's chewed a couple of drive belts. It only seems to happen when I kick the hell out of it and bounce off the limiter (set at 6900)...I don't do it often!

I'm guessing that I need a better/different tensioner/guide pulley set up? anyone got any suggestions or experience.

Thanks

Jim

PS, Hope you don't mind me posting here, figured this would be the most logical forum given the engine type.

I take it you have tried a shorter belt?
Gates do a special belt which self tensions. Its not supposed to be used with a tensioner and you have to use a special tool to fit it as its a tight fit. Internal structure in the belts shrink with use.

Yeah I understand the latest pulleys have a revised wall height due to this issue.
Sadly I was not sold one of these.

Another benefit of ordering direct is getting current up to date revised products frown

Still at least its not draining power!

What he said. Or just fit a new tensioner.

Ah, yeah, sorry I read Tiler, not Tinker! Duh.

My drive belt is fine, but my aircond one isnt. I wasnt in a position to be fussy with balancer, so went with that was available, though I understand the newer ones have a revised support wall.

The Fish boys couldnt get my 1083mm aircond belt on so its not as if it was loose. It took some effort to get it on and she was tight as.
Still came off. I understand it does it on stock vehicles and Holden has a technote out for it which requires a replacement balancer. So maybe I need a new one.. Ill try one more short one, then look to another solution. Perhaps a new model underdrive.

Great stuff, many thanks. I'll go do a bit of searching for a manual tensioner with high walls on the roller - that should do the trick.

Thanks

Jim
