Rear number plates, Oz style?
Discussion
Nooo, 'not another thread on number plates' I hear you cry!!
Yes, but this time the rear. I cant find any threads on rear plates in the search, so here we go (again?).
I am intriuged that the Ro doesnt need to have a 'normal' UK plate, and there is a lot of talk on the front plates, so much so I fancy a smaller one (its a shame ANPR struggles with these).
But my question is, presumably this also apples to the rear plates? So, has anybody gone for the Oz/US style front and rear? Like these:
BTW I dont fancy any slogans that they seem to fancy so much eg. 'NT - The state with nothing in it'

I ran around with ozzie stamped metal plates for a while.
I have however swapped to slightly more legal plates now after the BIB kept taking notice. Didn't get a fine but I was asked to change them on a regular basis.
I might use them for special occasions but not day to day, not worth the hassle and stress of dodging blue lights

Oz, found a guy who did 'show plates' so could knock up whatever you wanted.
I'll have a look through my emails and find out who it was again if your still interested.

Perfect, thanks.
Do you know if the standard Oz size front plate is the same width as the squared off bit on the front of the VXR bumper, presumably it is?
I've got a pair of OZ style plates for my 'ro.
The Aussies seam really strict re the issue of plates. As a result I couldn't get any with a state stamped on them. Instead, the wording on mine is THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER.
I've got a more close up pic somewhere, I'll try and upload it.
I got them from these guys in Oz via eBay. I did actually buy them for shows etc but have actually been running around with them for last 5 months.

The front cut-out is too small for a standard UK plate to fit in, but the rear has plenty of room, so you must use a standard rear plate if you want to stay legal. But my question is, presumably this also apples to the rear plates? So, has anybody gone for the Oz/US style front and rear?

All number plates must meet standard size for lettering and style (with the exception of imported cars that were not designed for UK plates and have a functional reason for not using standard size plates). Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if: The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Type Approval AND the vehicle’s construction/design cannot accommodate standard UK size number plates.

Careful, VXR style bumper has plenty of room on the front as its not recessed. So no excuse legally for not wearing standard size plates.
