Hi folks.

I have a CV8 with full AP Racing disc brake conversion. The brakes pull the car up brilliantly when under full load, but for light braking, they seem to have alot of judder. This seems to be most severe at about 40mph when braking very lightly.

I have not had the car long, so can't confirm how they were used before me, but for such a nice upgrade, the judder seems pretty bad and annoying as much as anything.

Is there anything else this could be, like balancing? And if it is wrapped discs, i take it replacement is the only real answer. Has anyone else had problems with these discs?

Probably just pad transfer rather than warped.

There could be a few things that can cause the wobble, it could be wheel bearings, a loose/worn steering bush and sometimes tyres.

Would be a good idea to jack one side up at a time (front) and get hold of the wheel top and bottom and force it back and forward and see if you can feel any looseness, also do the same with holding either side of the wheel.

To eliminate the tyres doing it, temp swap fronts with rears and see what happens.

I've had exactly the same for a while now too, APs on an LS2 VXR.

Thanks for the replies.

The juddering only happens if you push the pedal hard, light braking isn't an issue as much. I know that the discs will rust if allowed to stay wet, but the car gets regular exercise to keep the discs nice and shiny.

How can the pads affect performance, apart from having no meat to them etc.?

Pad material sticks to discs causing high spots, causing judder. Recommended cures are cycles of heavy braking, letting them cool and braking again to clean up the discs, skimming or getting friction pads fitted which, in my simple world, are more like sandpaper than an eraser - if you get my analogy?!

i am shocked, no mention of brake warping

oh

my

god

to the op, try cleaning them a bit by empty motorway. Drag brakes for a bit then do a few hard stops, repeat a few times and this should clear them. Had serious deposit, sorry, brake warping, after leaving the ro standing for a few weeks mid winter. All it was was crud and ste binding on pad/disk surface.

I think you have to be carefull what pads you use on discs, most discs are produced to run with a certain abrasive pad, if you start using a non compatable pad on the disc, it can cause the disc and the pad to behave badly, pads can overheat and carbonise, discs can warp and crack, so make sure when fitting pads that they are compatable to the disc.
