Morning all.

Rite, the girlfriend wants us to get away for the weekend as it's her birthday tomorrow. She wants to go to the south coast/new forest area. I'm sure we will end up going over to the isle of wight. My question is has any one taken thier Ro on the ferry over there???? I took mine on the Isle of Man one in the summer and had a couple of unavoidable bottom out experiences....not pleasant! What is the IoW ferry like for boarding?
Is it ok? or should i take the mon-fri car?

There a re two ferry companies Red Funnel and Wightlink both are fine for standard and lowered cars as long as they are not too low. I have about 15mm between the wheel and arch on my HSV GTS and get on an off with no problem. The things to watch for is that they put you on the bottom deck of the ferries the upper deck is fine but needs experience to get up without scraping. If you get put on a lifting deck don't worry just go on and off at 45 degrees to the deck and you will be fine. Mostly they will see your car and put you the low deck by default.

Have fun!

Cool, thanks for the local knowledge. She just told me that they have horses running wild in the new forest. Then she told me that she has booked a place to stay in the middle of it. Great just what i want - horse shoe shaped dent in the beast.Knowing my luck, that is what will happen. No thank you!!!

Not only horses,- cattle and donkeys as well. When I drive through the Forest I always keep the revs down because I think the Rangers and locals don't appreciate V8's smile.
BTW all the animals love to stand in middle of the road, hehe

Are you intending to use the Lymington Ferry?
Don't worry about the Animals, the hotels all have cattle grids to the entrances.
Very pretty around the Forest at the moment with all the Autumn leaves and so on.
My cars get parked in the villages around the forest all the time, and never had a problem in 20 years.

The Forest roads are all 40mph limit... for a reason. Take it easy and have a good time..
