Well it the first full day of competition in the Rally GB. And on this day the FIA have denied Seb his race in F1. He was due to run in the F1 in Abu Dhab, But the FIA have denied him his super licence. Dont know how many people here will follow rallying but this guy is a 5 times world rally champion and probably has more car control than most of the drivers in F1. I think the FIA are out of order when they let guys come in from F3000 who are still wearing nappies. Seb has been testing the car and has experiance of theses cars in all conditions.

So WHY?

I can sort of see it in a way. He is without doubt one of the best drivers out there but you're racing against a clock, conditions and yourself in rallying, track racing you're racing against 20 other drivers at the same time who all want you off the track.

It would be good to see him in F1 (as well as Rossi !!) but maybe a few races on the track would be a good idea ?? He could use it to learn how to use his mirrors !! hehe

FIA Fear of upsetting the natural order of things, after all he is just a common old rally driver. ;-)

I would rather go in the passger seat with loeb driving than Button. Thats it the sport is not as popular due to tv coverage and u cant get 110k people in a stadium to watch it.

Got to agree with Simon. Rallying is completely different to F1, and pacing yourself against the clock uses different skills to racing against others.

I'd love to see an F1 car slung in sideways on opposite lock. biggrin

I hope the FIA don't make it to difficult for him to obtain the correct license, it would make an interesting comparison.

Can Rally driver's be fast enough?

In the 1986 Rally Portugal, Henri Toivonen drove his Lancia Delta S4 at the Estoril track, and recorded a lap time which would have qualified him in sixth position at that year's Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix.
Toivonen started his career in circuit racing and was also very competitive on tarmac. He raced successfully in two World Sportscar Championship events and achieved praise from Eddie Jordan, in whose Formula Three team Toivonen made a few guest appearances. In his Formula One test for March Grand Prix, Toivonen managed to lap over a second quicker than the team's regular driver.

Well it was anounced today that the FIA new president is Jean Todt. Who was responsible for the 205 T16. So iam sure he will not stand in Loebs way.

I've seen that quoted before, but normally gets followed by a string of denials, something along the line of "his time was on the short track" or similar. Obviously cannot be a direct comparison...

Its listed on his Wikipedia page that he did.

It is often reported that during the 1986 Rally Portugal, he drove his Delta S4 at the Estoril track, and recorded a lap time which would have qualified him in sixth poition at that year's Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix.
