Had a test drive in a shiny new auto vxr8 today.
Discussion
Lovely car, very smooth, very quick and I want one but it was 26k with 650 on the clock and they offered peanuts for the Ro.
Nice to get a shot of one though and the auto is probably what I'd go for, oh and it's stunning in red.
Isi it just me or is the ls3 very quiet compared to the ls1 stock for stock.

Well I think I should put the Ro up in the classifieds and see it through this time then hopefully find a similar R8 further South a bit cheaper than up here.
Dont think i'll be satisfied until i've bought one tbh. I was impressed by the auto and seeing as i've been compaining about the Ro while sitting in traffic maybe I should just go for it. And then theres the no worries about clutch problems too.
Used to own an auto supra that put me off them but that only had three gears + overdrive and liked to change up going into corners. Scary.

You probably wouldn' of noticed on an accompanied test drive, but the auto on the vxr8 is quite clever; If you put it into sport mode and floor it, when you approach a corner and lift of - it will hold the gear that you are in (unlike most autos which start changing up thinking you want to take it easy). If on the otherhand you start braking hard into a corner scrubbing of speed - it will blip the throttle and change the box down into the perfect gear ready to floor it again as you come out.Moanro5.7 said:

Ha that's the one I was in yesterday, quite embarassing because they took it out the showroom to give me a shot lol.
Lovely car but seen the exact same for £23700 with 2k on the clock or £24700 with only a few miles.

lol, no I didn't get to find that out but it does sound useful for having a play.
think if you speak to onboard you'll find that Peters had that car up at 23k on their website a few weeks back because thats what they sold him his for even though salesman said they couldnt possibly do it at that price - he showed them their own website and did the deal. Now its not magically worth 3/4k extra now as autos are still fairly readily available around the dealerships - I'd go back tell them you'll match the price they were doing it at without the "supply" and "availability" premium they've added lol. Oh and I'd sell the Ro privately if you dont want to feel like they've bent you over and had their way with you.

Just found the description of this feature - its called Performance Algorithm Liftfoot (PAL)[i] PAS collects data from the accelerator, brake and yaw sensors to anticipate when the driver desires a "performance" shifting style, such as holding lower gears until redline when floored or performing a downshift from 3rd to 2nd while braking.
This works in conjunction with the Performance Algorithm Liftfoot(PAL), which determines how the transmission will behave when you lift the throttle. Normally, the car will shift to overdrive upon throttle lift in an effort to improve fuel economy. If the sensors detect "spirited" driving, it will instead hold the gear you're already in, in an effort to prepare you for the corner exit.
Yes, you do need to be in sport mode for these to work. It is not necessary to engage the manual shift, just bump the lever to the right. The easiest way to trigger the PAL is to maintain .5 G's for 1.5 seconds or more. Next time you come up on a sharp or sweeping corner, flip it into sport mode and take the corner. The car will go into overdrive when you lift, but if you floor it upon exit it will redline second befpre shifting into third. Then when you release the throttle in third, you'll notice that it stays there and engine brakes. This is the car preparing you for the next corner. If there were another corner, you could now enter in third (instead of Overdrive like the first) and when the car detects the hard braking and lateral G's of the second turn, the PAS will shift you from 3rd to 2nd in mid corner. This way you can blast out of the corner in second, no waiting for the shift like the first corner.

Good bit of information there, thanks for that.
Well the Monaro's up for sale again LOL, going to stick with it this time and hopefully it'll go to a good home.
Decided the R8 has to be Red, has to be the 6.2L, Definitely fancy the auto now and not sure whether to bother or not about sat nav.
