Hi all
I am in the market for a vxr8 and just have a couple of questions ?
what is the differences between the 6.2 and 6.0 is it just engine size or is there any spec changes to the car ?
Is the sat nav option a must for resale and is it any good ?
many thanks
Jason

I think the newer 6.2Ls are LS3s or L76s.
6.0Ls are LS2s.

LS3s have different heads that flow like crazy. 30-50hp increase is not unheard of.
You can put the LS3 heads on a 6.0L bore engine but not on a 5.7L LS1.

Is there any performance difference in standard form between the two ?

Quoted figures are 417bhp for the LS2, 431bhp for the LS3.

Quite academic when you only need the first 200 or so 95% of the time. smile

Yeah 6.2 heads and intake are way better. 1990's technology vs 2000+
415rwhp or slightly more with cam only in LS2 is possible, whereas 500rwhp is possible in the LS3, much more than just the displacement difference would suggest.

Otherwise internally the cars are identical AFAIK. ECU etc is the same, trans is the same, etc, etc.

In other words dont buy the LS2 version!

Apparently the best of the first three is the LS3
We have an LS1 which is excellent and are getting an LS3 in a few weeks. Cant comment on that one yet.
There all excellent engines
Correct me if i'm wrong but
LS Engines are GEN111(i think) Aluminium blocks that replaced the LT'S

LS1= 5.7
LS2= 6.0
LS3= 6.2
LS6= 5.7 was used in the ZO6 corvette until it was replaced with the
LS7= 7.0
LS9= 6.2 supercharged

God i need to read Danielle Steel or do some ironing or something HTH

I've never understood how that worked.

Gen II to Gen III was a huge step, a $1.5 billion ish (?) development !

If LS2 & 7 were gen IV then why aren't the LS3 & 9 Gen V confused ?

Yeah all are gen4 now pretty much. LS2 on from around 2004.
Earlier ones were/are Gen3.
Both gen3 and gen4 are LS series stuff and particularly cool engines.

So why did you end up going so big with your build if you could have gotten the same power from a little LS3 lump...?

I thought the LS3 had a different transmission from the standard tremec?

Not in UK. No TR6060 here, just T56.

Elementary. Larger engine + smaller cam = same power as smaller engine with larger cam.

I dont want a cam thats too large for daily use. Mine will pull uphill in 4th gear at 800rpm idle. Good for traffic jams and heavy vxr8's.

Basically we are discussing torque as BHP is simply a measurement of torque and rpm. So the smaller engine will have its torque at a higher rpm. Good for track use, but not so good around town.

While we are on the topic dude, what cam are you running in your 402?

From about mid 08 IIRC look on autotrader and PH classifieds for pricing. Mel was looking at once with a few mods for around £25k IIRC.
Still a bloody good price when you look at what the aussies pay.

PS: Silver is good! Next best is blue IMO, but that was only LS2 powered. So you are left with White, Grey, Black or Red.

Specs changed from 402 as cost was a consideration, doing forged and ARP bolts etc still. Cam is the same as Wormus - ie no idea but its lumpy from all accounts but smooth once running. Once its built IL give a breakdown. Probably only be about 560rwhp TBH but thats enough till the new car next year! Need some new 19" rims so I can run soft rubber. smile
