Any good?

Suppose you could use fairy liquid (as I used to on my helmet - ahem)but this stuff has got to do the job better I would think.

It works really well, so well you dont really need wipers but some people avoid it (jez?) as i think it has a bad chemical in it

I avoid it as I don't want to make an enforced donation to Brake.

I use it all the time, never had any problems apart from the fact that if it's hot and your screen gets dusty on the move, the washers don't work coz all the fluid rolls up the screen before the blades get there!!

use rain-x on all my cars on side and rear windows, don't use it on the windscreen though as it can get a bit patchy when you do have to use your wipers. Reliably informed the local traffic cops use it on all their vehicles, windscreens and all. Certainly does a good job of shifting the water when you're moving.

Auto Express did a test on these last year

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/229...

and found Comma ProVision Rain Clear Gel to be the best, followed by Halfrauds and then Turtle Wax.

The way I avoided the Rain X Brake donation was to get some PIAA silicone wipers

http://www.piaa.co.uk/wipers/wipers.asp

You clean your screen first, then wipe it with their wipe, then run the wipers for about 5 mins on a dry screen. As the blade is dragged across the screen the silicone wears forming a silicone layer which does a great job of beeding water and causing it to stream off like Rain X. The advantage is that everytime you use your wipers the layer is topped up so you don't have to keep reapplying stuff. I've been using them for a couple of months now and hardly ever use the wipers. At 40mph it starts to stream, and at 70mph you can even pass trucks with all the spray and not need them.

I have been using Rain-X for years on all my cars. Just can be a pain to rub it off enough (fab using a machine polisher), i.e. goes a litte patchy for couple of days and then it's great.

Very good product, especially good in the side and rear windows and helps on frosty mornings to move the frost.

Cheers
Steven

I have occasionally found that using the wipers on Rain-X can smear a little, but you don't need to use them so much on the move. It is very good for preventing frost & ice getting a grip of the glass, so the windows are much easier to clear in winter.
