Hi Guys & Gal's

Contemplating some mods on my 08 VXR8, car was bought with the factory fit TWR supercharger option giving 533 hp apparently

From what I can gather some useful increase can be had by fitting a different camshaft? being supercharged I would guess the profile shouldn't be too wild? and maybe the factory grind is'nt that far off?

I realise I'll probably need new springs/pushrods etc

Also is it an engine out job or can it be done in situ?

Any advice or recomendations welcome tongue out

Thanks

Engine can say in. Mr Fish's cam swap price is pretty good.
I know TerryS had his cam spec'd up by a US guy with good results and designed for his blower.

Adding a cam to a PD blower can raise power and reduce charge temps (by reducing pressure) which will help keep it safe though ultimately depending on your power goals you will want a forged setup.

The biggest restriction with cam choice is what emissions requirements your car has to meet.

Well I suppose it's got to be EU04 compliant

But if it's not miles over the top HC or CO2 wise i'll be ok

I've been following threads on forged bottom ends & TVS blowers with interest, so could be on my list of things to do as well

Pity no TVS blowers turned up at the dyno day, would have been interesting to see how much better they were.
Hopefully next time.

HHhmmmmm cam and SC... yr brave is all I can say!

I'd spend my money on some decent pistons if yr after more power cos you will have to either now or later when yr stock pistons crack!

Having seen how delicate mine were on the top ring land I'm amazed they lasted as long as they did!!

Yr car though... smile

I've heard the standard pistons are a bit suspect when pushed so guess I'll do them at the same time

Could you recommend any?

What about rods and crank? I'm looking for around 600 hp, I've seen the standard items qouted as being ok upto around 800

Indeed. With a cam as well, you may exceed the engines ability to cope! Maybe.

Roger said the same thing to me when I was looking to do the same..... shortly after it popped two pistons! mad
Chat with Monk fish or Mark at Rapid - I think they use Mahle forged teflon coated piston... I know they look very nice! smile

Thanks for the advice

I'll have to get on the phone 2mor,

Is 600 safely and reliably achievable with just pistons & camshaft/springs/pushrods tho?

I've also got a barely used aquamist water inj kit, is that of any use on our intercooled sc setups?

I had it fitted pre blower on my previous sc jag but couldn't see any real drop in intake temps under WOT

600rwhp with forged pistons but stock rods/crank should be fine unless yr an animal with the throttle!
I personally would not use a water injection system on a SC setup as your spraying water onto some very carefully machines rotors.. prob ok but I dont like the idea. Be better off going bigger intercooler, water wetter and having a cooling fan running most of the time... all IMHO of course.

I used to spray pre charger on my quite expensive Kenne Bell twin screw, when I removed it recently the rotors were still in mint condition luckily, I've heard of people spraying fuel pre charger as well, cooling thing apparently

Mines an auto, so no massive load dropping the clutch at 5k like you can in a manual, was aiming for arond 600 fly hp, but 600 wheel hp would be awesome

Mines a Ro so 600rwhp is ok, if yours is an R8 then you deffinately need 600+RWHP as their lardy old things.... biggrin;)

You will likely exceed the stock fuel system mate, then you will need to pay more dosh. Also the auto doesnt handle power as well as the manual by most accounts. Not without some careful tuning at a minimum. Cost rises exponentially the more you want.

Stevie's engine bay was very interesting smile

Yeah they are chunky ole beasts, wonder how quick one would be after going on a serious diet?

Even the wheels weigh a ton. probably the heaviest/tuoghest rims I've come across, them Aussie roads must be rough? worse than ours even

It is at the back of my mind about transmission durability, thats why I thought about 600 fly max, or should I say flex? smile

EssexVXR8, yours is quite extensively modified from what i've heard? are you around the 700 plus mark now?

Not quite, but you ain't far off. I weighed my new wheels before the tyres were fitted - 9.5kg at the rear (so a bit less at the front). I then weighed the VXR8 rear wheel and it was 17kg!

17KG!!

WTF? thats like over a 100 kgs in wheels/tyre's alone, so much for unsprung weight etc

Any pic's of your new lightweight rims?
