I fitted the 55W HID kit yesterday and am most impressed with the illumination they give. I drove along some very dark country roads last night but these gave a good view of the road ahead.

I found fitting was a bit fiddly and removing the wheel and arch liner on the drivers side made the job stright forward. I wish I had done that first on the near side, I messed about for too long getting the airbox out.

Thanks for the hints and tips I got here.

Steve

PS my drivers-side wheel is all clean on both inside and outside now too :-)

That's what were all here for..hehe....glad you managed to fit them ok, they do make one hell of a difference!! I see the same company do versions for the hi beam as well...scratchchin

fitted my last week, impressed smile

Now need to replace the sidelight bulbs to match - any recommendations?

I have noticed some condensation/moisture behind one of the lenses. So I propose to use silcone sealant around the bung/grommet as I noticed that it was not a tight fit. I'm not sure how to drive the mositure out of the headlamp though - perhaps put a desicant in their overnight. THis may be a job for when its warmer.

As regards side lights then Graham is your man.

Did you fit the 55W version? My son's girl 'complained' how bright they were when I followed her last week - but she has a Clio with only one headlight anyway. Yes - I did offer to change her Clio's bulb - my son told me to stop fussing ha ha!

I fitted the ebay jobbies from Aus, same as moif etc.

Who is Graham? biggrin I saw some LEDs that were recommended on the thread Foxdie started but they were just LEDs? I'm hamfisted so like a simple solution that somebody else has figured out smile

Then re-read the thread Foxie started. They are canbus-friendly LED clusters that emit an HID-esque hue. smile

these? http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/501-194-t10-anti-bulb-w...

aren't these just the LED clusters?

Seems they are problematic with the heat generated from main beam?

My multi-led front sidelights both have two or three LEDs out on each side, I think it's down to the heat in the headlamp as I've had this before.

My rear multi-led reversing light bulbs are fine and not an issue at all.

Stef
I've had this too.

Have just purchased new LEDs for the side lights to replace the ones I fitted last year. It seems to be heat related, I assume from the high beam bulb of which they are in close proximity to.

It does state on the website that they are of plastic construction and so should not be placed close to sources of heat, headlights for example. Strange really as these LEDs are sold as automotive, and as such are always going to have to work in close proximity to headlights. For this reason, I'm considering getting a HID kit to replace my hi-beam as these kick out much less heat, and the colour of the light will complement the dipped beam HID and LED sides

They are a stick of LED clusters (3 LEDs per cluster I think). If using them to replace the side lights, they are housed in the same part of the headlight as the full-beam bulb, and so yes I think they are susceptive to the heat produced when the full-beam is on.

...which is for how much time?

Had mine in about 3 or 4 months before they started to 'blink'. Some of the LED clusters seemed to have shifted across the plastic surface and one of them was close to dropping off the plastic mounting. Glad I removed them before this happened else it would have dropped into the front light assembly!

I put a lot of miles on my car and use full-beam quote a lot on way to and from work, and so my LEDs were probably exposed to heat from the full-beam for longer periods than others.

I fitted hid to my bike and the cheaper versions had DC and crap, the AC versions are more expensive but far superior, not sure if this is the same for cars but I would think so.

I've noticed that there is some interference on the FM radio when the headlamps switch on. Has anyone else had this?

I've just ordered some ferrites to put over the supply leads to help supress emissions. This should help.

You actually use your radio? hehe

Don't think I've had it on in ages. I've either got the windows down or I put a CD on. But now you've mentioned it I'll give it a try.

I have two brand new 4300k bulbs I bought as spares for kit I fitted to my last car....

Can I just buy can bus ballasts to fit these? Or do they even have to b can bus?

Hi Mark,

Yes, you can buy just the ballasts and you get them with non-CAN bus error too. I had to buy a replacement for my son's Alfa and a single one (no CAN bus involvement) cost about £18.

The CAN-bus fix is (I think) a fixed resistor so that the car's bulb-fault detection can see a current path when the lights are off.

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to the resistor end lol, a degree in technology and design ten years ago was completely wasted on me on that front, haven't looked near the thing!!!

Tried to message the oz dealer to price up just the ballasts for the oem type install but seems to have disabled the message facility :-(

Hi again,

HID direct supplier mine.

These look similar (please check) to the OEM ones IIRC: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/matsusta-gen-4-hid-... the info say sit fits a Camaro.

I fitted these to my son's Alfa: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/hid-12v-35w-digital-b... £17.50

Yeah one of my ballasts in the last kit died and I ordered a cheap £7.99 replacement for it and it worked a treat although all this canbus chat is new to me!!!

Tempted to try some of the cheaper eBay canbus options as I already have the bulbs
