Dear all

Following various threads and chatting with various Speed Six Sag owners, how many of us are truly, truly 100% satisfied with the sound coming out of our rear pipes.

I myself purchased my Sag with a tailor made exhaust system, new mani's all the way back to the very end. Superb quality, fit performance gains etc, but my old T350c de-catted with TVR Power's back box was a sound track to die for, even though it wasd not every one's cup of tea.

So with limited choice on the market at the moment who has got a system that they believe is very aggresive, deep sound and matches the car appearance. I understand we all have different taste's etc, but the thread is aimed at those of us who like the note to be a little on the LOUD side but not Chavvy!

Please post comments, details of systems and vid's if at all possible.

Cheersbiggrin

I am. I haven't yet heard a S6-engined TVR with an aftermarket exhaust that didn't sound vulgar and "loud for the sake of loudness".

Vulgar scratchchin

Fully respect your views and personal opinion but I must confess that I know of many TVR speed six owners with mod exhaust's and some of the cars sound awesome, mostly on Tam's & T350c's.

Hence we need Sag owners with mod's who are 100% satisfied with new sound. I wouldn't describe my system sounding Vulgar, just simply not 100% perfect!

Mine is totally standard at mo, and it could definitely improve... De-cat + chip first, then I think the back box should be replaced with two straight through pipes

I read somewhere on here last week that someone was having a complete new system designed for the Sag to get the breathing up to Tuscan S standard so enabling the Sag to match Tuscan S bhp... and hopefully add to the decibels and style of sound...

Just for comparison. The standard exhaust on the T350 has a boom at around 3k that did my head in, plus no pops and bangs. It is also very quiet everywhere else, ,even a bit too quiet . When tested at a trackday at Goodwood the nice lady with the microphone said it was one of the quietest TVR's she had measured
I changed to a TVR Power Sports exhaust which is quieter at 3k but a bit louder everywhere else.lots of pops and bangs as well once warmed up.

Perhaps its time to upgrade to a T350c? winkhehe

I am trying to think about the standard T350c at 3krpm? All I know is it gets strangely quiet on a 70-80mph cruise?? Perhaps a touch too much wind noise, but nothing from the exhaust?

Just sold it for the Sag !! To be honest, T350C suffered the 2500-3000 rpm boom as described, but was very civilised on motorway outside that rev range. Mine was standard afaik (spot the theme!) and it was too quiet really...

the exhaust note is a personal thing, like chosing the colour of your car, some like it loud, raw and raspy, other like it quiet, others like it loud but with a bassier note.

I personally prefer the later, and so far think I have achieved this, but will play some more over the winter, the t350 and the sag rear silencers are very restrictive,(never opened up a tamora one) but I think this was more to do with cost and packaging under the car, I have managed to flow the 2 pipes to change direction out the sides within the silencer, rather than the standard open ended pipes at right angles to eachother, and its much nicer, a good bit of wadding and I get a bassier sound, pops ect when warmed up always around 3k rpm, and pretty lound when under serious peddle pressurehehe

I have plans to make a better set of manifolds, play with different pipe diameters under the car, loose the cherry bombs , then play with the rear silencer again, but enjoy driving it to much to want to take it off the roadhehe

I like the way my Sag sounds. Loud when pressing the loud pedal, quiet (well, relatively speaking !!) when cruising on the motorway and pops & bangs on over-run. Perfect.

Measured 102dbA (3000rpm??) at the last trackday I did (limit was 100dBA but they still let me on!!)

As far as I know it is standard and I won't be changing it

As somebody said above, persoanl taste me thinks

Standard exhaust for me was plenty loud enough. Any louder it would have started to become a bit theatrical. I did love the noise. Sag sadly gone now frown

Thanking you all so far for your opinions.

I must state that it's not the fact that the noise is not loud enough. My exhaust is more than loud enough, it's the tone, depth and that distinctive bark sound and also dedening deep sound on tick over that I am after. Most Sag's that I have listened to sound too tiny and raspy, no depth to the note at all!

Basically I need to buy my old T350c back.

Still no vid's.

Maybe we should get QUINNY TO SELL HIS ASTON FOR A SAG! We will have all the vid's that you could ever want;)

Hi Chris

Would have to agree with you I dont want an increase in volume just a deeper bass note.
Personal opinion is the T350 with Powers exhaust is the best Speed Six note I have heard and that is what I would like to replicate.
Tried removing the back box and having straight through pipes with Blueflame silenced cans which is better but still not there. Was decatted at the time and had to put the cats back in as much to loud for me.
I have been told that the small silencer box on the the Power exhaust is largely responsible for the deep tone so may have a chat with someone like Hayward and Scott and see if they could rebuild the Blueflames and tune the exhaust note a bit.

I have the original Scorpions on my car, as fitted by the factory. These are just great....but at 106db....too loud to be allowed on most tracks so have invested in some of the STR8 Six track day can's which I put on for Goodwood etc. These arn't as loud....95db's, but do the job....looking forward to next wekend at TAG11.....those of you who are going will be able to hear them!!!

I'll get a vid when we've got the new back box on (thanks Clivef!) - but it'll only make you want your T350 back more... hehe

Standard cats with Power exhaust. Best combo ever for a SpeedSix, if you ask me.

All the best,
Björn.
