I know a few people have moved the heater amp behind the glovebox to stop the dreaded overheating issues that cause the fans to slow down. I had a look at doing this yesterday on our car, but there's no way the wiring coming off the loom is long enough to reach.

To those who've done this mod; how did you do it?! Did you take apart the loom to release more cable, or did you simply cut and extend the heater amp wiring?

Thanks for any help!

Not looked at it in any great detail yet, but I have made up an extension for the loom and will solder direct to the pins on the heater amp. If the loom is long enough (after cutting the tape) I might bin that idea and just solder it to the pins.

The loom isn't long enough so I cut the connector block off and extended the wiring using 15A for the power and return and 8A for the control wiring. In addition, I put a 15A mini fuse holder on the power line to hopefully prevent the board overheating in the future.

I drilled a small hole through the dashboard GRP to the right of the air vent to pull the cables through and mounted the board on the flattish bulkhead behind the vent. After much deliberation,I stuck it there with a small blob of metal weld so that it can be prised off in the future if required.

Seems to work although now the blower fan's making alot of noise at low RPM...... Onto the next job!!
