I'd have a look at the federal tack day tyre they have just brought out, they had them at Oulton Park yesterday, the recon they ahve more grip than the 888's and are a lot cheeper,

Funny you should mention the Federal tyre, I came across these while looking for 888's and was going to ask about them scratchchin

Found this.

Features
New, semi-slick, sport competition 595RS-R - designed for exceptional traction and grip. Cutting-edge technological advances in design, construction, pattern and compounds. Best performance in its class - a street legal competition tyre with the characteristics of a slick.
  • Lateral grooves substantially exterminate stiffness on shoulder blocks to upgrade traction and riding comfort.
  • Tread patterns on shoulder block provide lateral driving stability while cornering.
  • Uni-directional V-shaped main groove design enhances both sport look and water distribution.
  • Wide angle grooves improve consistency on tread blocks thereby permitting more serious grip.
  • The modern, feather-like tread pattern incorporates stylish image and outstanding responsiveness.
  • Embossed letters on the sidewall featured with unique and personal characteristics.
Designed for use on all high performance vehicles

Basically, it is Federals equivilent of the R888, and offers very similar performance, for a lot less money.
Should be slightly better in the wet than the R888 (in terms of aquaplaning), so more road friendly

They do 2 different types, one wich would be a better allround tyre than a 888,it has a decent tread pattern which would be good for shifting the water, i think it is called the 595 rs-r ,and another which has very little tread, much less than a 888 for the dry, i think it is called the RSR, they say it is still road legal and has more grip than a 888.

Bit of a write up from a guy who tried them at Spa http://openpitlane.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=17...

Just had a look at the Camskill site. They do a 595 RS-R and an SS 595
The SS 595 are cheap as chips on fleabay but I get the feeling the RS-R are the ones to have!

I've only looked on Camskill and fleabay. Camskill are 235/40/18 £134 each and 255/35/18 £155 each.

Have you found them cheaper?

I have run fedrals for a long time now , they are not ultimately as grippy as a 888 but a very very good road tyre . They come with more tread depth from new as well , when they do let go it's very progressive and comes back Well and they smoke lots !! They have quite a stiff side wall and don't need much pressure in them . Try ben at Driftworks he might be able to do a deal ( the Are my neighbours at work )

I am sure those Craig was refering to had less tread groove pattern than the 595 RS-R shown on the camskill site.

Those at Oulton that Craig & I saw were a Federal ZR-201 Corsa.

The contact at Oulton was Nick Dougill from MOT Motorsport Kettering.
(he will be back at Oulton on 22/7/11 for circuitdays trackday)

Just had a look at the Federal site, they seem to have quite a selection. Can't find the ZR-201 Corsa, only an FZ-201 and FZ-202 which they state are not intended for highway or road use although are street legal. The 595 RS-R seems the best all round option.

Yes that is it FZ-201.

UK legal but have no wear indicators
Also can be changed from side to side (not left or right only)

No stock at Driftworks and Camskill only have 1 X 255 35 18 left. They have 235 40 18's though! Demon tweeks have both sizes on ebay but I'm sure I can do better than their prices somewhere...!
