Door Hinge rust

Warning or am I just unlucky?
Just in case you have not looked inside the TVR doors recently.
The door drain hole on my Tamora is about half an inch above the bottom of the metal hinge sleeve so if there is a leak into the door the sleeve will rust. The rust on mine had crept about five inches up the sleeves on both the doors.
I managed to get some Kurust onto the sleeves and very carefully put drain holes lower than the sleeves.
It's a hell of a job to get to the sleeves. I'm not sure if Kurust is the best solution to stop the rust and if I've covered all the rusty area. Any ideas please?
