sag aircon /electrics problems
Discussion
had a good , well eventfull weekend in the sagaris, however the latest fault this weekend is the most puzzling.
driving back from the s club meet at weston park house all motorway stuff with aircon on full chat as it was such a hot day, car went great, however half way through our journey my passenger can feel a light spray of water on his arm from the aircon vent, and a drip on his foot.now I know aircon produces a lot of condensation as you see it dripping on the floor when parked up afterwards, but, and this is the strange part, we parked up on the car ferry and locked the car, went back to car 3/4 hr later got in and before I can put the key in the ignition I noticed that the dash was going through the start up sequence, dash lights flashing, clock needles moving ect of its own accord, it just kept repeating this over and over again, plus, I can scroll through the dash menu......... very wierd.
worried that I wouldn`t be able to start the thing and get off of the car ferry, I played around, but to no avail, however, if ignoring the lunacy of the dash, I can put in the key and start the car, no problems when car is started at all, everything normal, however, before engine starts I have error code 144 power failure.
I `ve got home, disconnected the battery, removed carpet from passenger footwell in search of dampness hoping to find some water from aircon dripping into the electrics in the passenger footwell, but with all of the heat after a very long run there is nothing obvious to see or feel, my gut feeling is damp getting into the immobilisor box, as the dash gets power without the use of the key and now wont lock.
after an hour I have reconnected the battery, but the same situation is still present, most bloody annoying, I`m off on a holiday tomorrow, flying, not driving
and with 2 days of returning I`m hoping to go to the caring with cars event at bristol, so has anyone experienced anything like this before????
just to add, battery is disconnected until I return.

I've not had the aircon problem, but after along hot thrash back to Calais my dash lit up just like yours. It was flashing away to itself for the duration of the Eurotunnel journey. I was worried about restarting, but like yours it started fine. However, I got no errors and it was fine afterwards, and has been for the past 5 years! TVRs eh!
Hope yours self heals too.

diode pack on the alternator failing maybe? Had this on mine that even with the ignition off, the dash stayed on albeit without the start up sequence cycling also had the error code 144. Only switched off when I pushed the brake pedal. Needed a new alternator. Feel the alternator, is it warm - when you have had the battery connected!
May not be linked to the air con ie two separate faults. When the air con went pear shaped on my Jaguar it was the drain pipe (hence the pool you get under the car) that was blocked so it pissed all over the floor in the footwell.

cheers shep, the drain hose is`nt blocked as there was a fair bit of water under the passenger side of the car when getting off of the car ferry, the alternator part is interesting, were you still getting a good voltage when engine was running when this happened, check mine on the way home and 13.7v when running, so seems to be charging ok.

Mine was fine 13.5-14V, the new alternator did it too until I fitted an aditional diode.just to give thios an update, in case it helps anyone else with this problem,
I phoned Jason at str8six just before I cleared off on holiday, and he said that sometimes the circuit boards in the dash ecu can come loose, which could possibly cause the symptoms I described.
so with the battery topped up, and reconnected to the car everything was fine, no problems with the dash at all, but to be on the safe side I disconnected the dash ecu and opened it up, the circuit boards are fixed to the aluminium housing by 4 screws, with the nuts on the inside, one of these was very loose, so re tighten and put it back together and everthing is as it should be, a pic of the inside of the ecu for anyone interested.

so, was it the loose nut, or one of those strange tvr gremlins that happen to us from time to time?
off to the caring with cars show at Bristol tomorrow, so fingers crossed that she behaves herself.........
edited to add, the water from the vent was just the aircon icing up from being on max for a long time.

Well after yesterdays trip to Bristol I can confirm that this is definately an air con related problem, no problems at all, until having the aircon on on the way home, after 2hrs use and going to re start the car to board the car ferry, up flashed the power failure warning on the dash, but this time no flashing of lights.
I met another sag owner yesterday who suffered exactly the same problem and it turned out to be a kinked aircon drain hose, water then drops down into the passenger footwell onto one of the immobilisor boxes, I thik this was alredy mentioned on here, so will investigate the hoses.

At least you're getting cold air.. I'm currently using the Sag as part of a calorie controlled weight loss program - hotter inside than out !!! I've tried the heater flap zero mod and checked/silkaflexed for air loss through gaps in the bulkhead etc but still getting warm air via dash vents...
HELP!
HELP!
I've had the same issues and posted on another thread about it a few weeks ago. I've reset and zeroed the flaps as per GV's manual but no joy. I think i've traced the problem to the part in the picture below. Graham said to give it a light tap to reseat the valve, i haven't actually tried it yet as i've been out of the country but it could be worth a go.

Possibly the little servo motor which controls the heater flaps. Fails and Non-aircon air goes from cool/hot to just hot/hotter.HELP!
