Engine rebuild options

Still got to get the Tam for a second opinion but had a thought...
There are several 4ltr engines on Ebay for not much cash (1500 quid). Would it be cheaper to buy one of these and have it rebuilt by Power as 4/standard rather than getting my 3.6 rebuilt as 4ltr.
Also has anyone ever rebuilt their own engine? I've built a few engines in the past and have o.c.d levels of perfection for such things...could be a nice side project while my 3.6 turns to chocolate. I've even done head work using a dremel (port matching etc also).

IIRC 'Powers engines are exchange units. Why not tap the bloke up who is selling his Sag with 3 spare engines (in the adds) see if he will sell you one, cheaper than a rebuild by 1/2 Iwould estimate. There are several 4ltr engines on Ebay for not much cash (1500 quid). Shep
Just gone through a similar dilema recently. I decided to do my engine for peace of mind better the devil you know and all that, but I did get a few people offer to sell me there engines and most of the latter sag engines with rebuilds came out between £5&6k. Thats cheaper than a 4l rebuild.
The risk of buying engines that have been sitting out of a car is that I have very rarely seen one that has been prepped in any way for such storage.
I doubt S6 engines are old enough to be really effected by this but you never know.
If I were buying I'd certainly be doing so to have it rebuilt rather than put straight in a car.
