Does anyone know this car ?
Discussion
It means the car has been written off in an accident.
A Category C or D write-off is one that insurers consider unecomonical to repair but one that could, given enough time in the workshop, be repaired and returned to the road.
Category A and B should never be returned to the road. A Category B write off is one that is so badly damaged it can only be used for the salvaging of spare parts, while a Category A is one that is sent to the crusher.

I had a very very close and detailed look at this car and it's history whilst looking for a Sag. Previous owner was totally genuine, but had been a bit naive thinking he could buy it 'damaged/repairable', back in 2007, do lots of lovely stuff to it, including getting it fully road worthy repaired, and re-certified by VOSA, and it would be worth nearly as much as if it had never been Cat D.... which sadly it isn't.
He spent a fair bit of money on mods/improvements, like single-piece front-opening hinged bonnet etc, total colour change, opening of the wing/roof vents, and grafted on extensions behind front wheel etc.
All the paperwork checked out (I was very very thorough), and there were lots of photo's of pre-repair damage. The majority of the repair work, including the bobywork, was well done, but I had it inspected and there were simply too many things that needed to be fixed for me so I walked away.

I think I remember seeing it at Chatsworth. If it is the one I'm thinking of then, I can also add a bit.
- Vent work and extensions were done by RP as well as the bonnet
- The person I spoke to at the time said it was "in good order"
If you are interested, give Jonny at RP a call. He would know more about it as they did a lot of work on it.

I'd have an very careful look at everything Target Cars is selling. They are not a garage, they buy stuff (including Ferrari's with 1/6 of the car missing, digging machines, Ferrari's that were Toyota MR2's before, etc) in England and sell in in Holland. They do not repair or in any way alter the merchandise, they buy and sell. The likelyhood of buying Cat C or D there is seems high.
I am not trashtalking them; what you see is what you get and they will tell you the same. When they say they know nothing about the car or its history they mean it.

Hi everybody!
I travelled from Luxembourg to Target Cars today with the knowledge gained from this thread. While a friend and I were inspecting the car, I might have made a mistake in asking the salesperson about the former Cat D status or the fact that this car might have had an accident as described here. It even says so in their ad. The seller seemed quite upset/annoyed about my question and told me off how I could dare to make such a statement - I was merely asking if he had any details on the damage.
In fact, as some said here, there are indeed some things that would need to be taken care of such as a few rusted parts in the engine bay and blobs in the paintwork. Interior seems spotless though.
Also, no test drive possible without a multi K€ safety deposit...
A final question for all fellow TVR pistonheads
: Is the behaviour described common for Target Cars? We were really disappointed by the attitude they gave us (not motivated enough to open the Tuscan and the Cerbera for us, because of a depleted battery despite having accumates/aux batteries at hand). Really put off to purchase from them at any time in the future.
Best greetings from Luxembourg!

Hi mojikosu, sorry to hear that they didn't treat you very well. I visited them once to look at a T350. I did not even want to testdrive the car when I saw it, but anyway the battery was dead and they didnt have an Anderson connector to start it. They were similarly unfriendly/uncooperative. It is hard to put into words but it is just the whole feeling of the place and the people that made me definitely not want to buy an exclusive car there. Maybe it was personal, but it seems you might have had the same feeling.
Hi, I visited target cars a couple of times.... I never had any bad experience (never bought anything but did q couple of testdrives) but I would never buy a TVR there or any other specialist car without having a thorough knowledge of what you are buying. Through the TVR dealer in Belgium I have seen a few but heard many more stories of cars that have been bought there... Remember target cars buys and sells cars they do not maintain or do checkups, they need to keep the cost low. It's fun to look around but beware they have some of tvr's in there hangar for already a couple of years...

Hiya, thanks for your comment. Indeed, spot on, I felt the exact same way as you did...Gassing Station | Tamora, T350 & Sagaris | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
