Well i collected my T350 from Dom yesterday. Full rebuild, clutch and various other bits. On route back down to south the alternator decides to throw a wobbler (as if my bank balance hasnt taking a big enough pounding this month).

Voltage on dash rapidly flicks between 13 and 15 volts.
Dash display flickers.
EFI Fault code 4 keeps flashing up.
While driving at night the headlights also flicker.

Dom thinks the alternator is over charging. So i need to get hold of a recon alternator asap so i can continue running in. Does anyone know where i can get an alternator cheap? Somewhere close to Chichester would be handy.

Would a poor earth not cause the same issues? Cheaper tp have a look than get a new alternator.

If it is the alternator you can get them re-wound for about £80. They are a land rover item but you need a set of pullers as the belt guide on the shaft end has a different number of grooves in it to the TVR.

also read this somewhere about another car (not TVR)

It is not unusual for the voltage regulator function in a modern alternator to suddenly go haywire and send three or four times the normal voltage through the electrical system. If you don't pick up the funny sequence of warning lights that flicker on when this happens and shut down immediately, you will face a damage bill that will make your eyes water.

Hi Adam,

The last one I had was from here:

http://www.universal-rotating.co.uk/public/Product...

IIRC about £110 new with no exchange etc.

You might also need the diode to fit inline which is one of these ( the P600A):

http://www.maplin.co.uk/rectifier-diode-19079

Give me a shout if you need anymore info.

Cheers. Lee.

P.S. Same company but eBay advert below:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVR-100AMP-NEW-ALTERNATO...

They did send me a recon in the first instance but were very helpful in exchanging it, but it was me not them that figured out the additional diode. There is a thread about it somewhere where I posted all the info, will try and find it.

Well after an evening of playing under the bonnet the T350 is fixed.

Thanks Lee for the advice. smile

I took plenty of pics, so i will be able to produce a short guide when i get a moment for anyone else who needs to change their alternator in the future.

From whom do have bought the new alternator?
Price?
Original part or aftermarket?
Or did you change only the voltage regulator(with diodes)?

I have same problem now, current goes from 12.8 to 15.5 volts
at all revs!

Here is a link to the alternator...

http://www.universal-rotating.co.uk/public/Product...

They also list on ebay but i rang them direct. Their prices vary depending on how much they have them up for on ebay. Make sure you request a new one when you order. I paid £122 + £9.95 delivered. Ebay link below for aternator for car with digital dash. Cheaper if you dont have a digital dash.

As Lee mentioned above you will also need a P600A diode.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/rectifier-diode-19079?C=54...

I will upload all my photos this evening and put together a quick how to.

It should be a Land rover alternator, but i do not know if
the tvr one has any mods on the regulator !
On my alternator i cannot read complete sticker, but i see land rover sign!
Its magneti marelli, 100 amp, 12v, but P/N i cannot read on
my damaged sticker!
Normally the regulator is faulty, costs 20-30 bpd,
so no need for a compl new alternator!

Can anyone help with compl numbers from alternator ??

I've got another 600ish miles left of running in to do. Most of which I will be eaten up this weekend on a road trip to Devon. So another week of taking it easy before I can have some proper fun.

Its so the juice can only flow one way. Put another way it converts AC current into DC.

I have done all as above decribed, but now voltage is too high,
i have 14.5-14.6 volts, so something is not as it should!!!!!!!!
It was for a Tuscan, alternator is same!

Before it relative steady at 13.8 to 14.1 volt

checked with mutimeter readings are correct!!

Any ideas?

sounds like the regulator on the "new" alternator is on the way out. Dont be suprised at getting a duff replacement as I believe most are remanufacturered even those at the higher price bracket sold by online TVR parts suppliers.

Hi everybody!

To resolve this issue, it would be necessary to know which model of Magneti-Marelli alternator is usually mounted on the T350! Please take a look to these pdf tables and You'll be able to repair your original alternator by YOURself, ordering a new VOLTAGE REGULATOR...!

http://www.magnetimarelli-checkstar.com/it/show/27...

I've the same problem, i'll remove the airbox this w.e. and i'll let You know which model i have (hopefully will be a Magneti-Marelly)
Please let me know which model you also have... Thanks!
