Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of either of the following:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-D709G-7-Touch-Scr...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/C1306DVE-Car-Voice-Comma...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-DVD-Player-CD-MP3-Bl...

I have a 2002 Tamora. Will the connectors fit the new unit and is this something a real amateur you fit,

Many in advance for any guidance you may have

Ive got the top one. The gps is not good and the cooling fan wirls so loud that it is hard to hear the system unless it is so loud that you cant hear anything else.I got mine for next to nothing and even then it wasnt worth it. My advise would be to save up and get a good system.

Pioneer AVIC X1 or X1-BT is the same connectors (I must have been lucky as I paid I think £500 for the X1-BT brand new) Some sellers are still asking over £1K for these. Don't buy these cheap chinese units they are cheap for a very good reason, they are st.

eBay is the answer but for an ex demo, 2nd user ken wood, alpine, pioneer etc, the quality of sound is so much better. I have always thought older but better is the answer. I still have my ken wood top of the range from 1994 in another car and if anything it is better than the new one I bought a year ago.

I have a Pioneer Avic X2 or 3 (can't remember which) paid £600 for it, which was a very good price!

I didn't fit it myself, instead I took it to Carl Baker and boy am I glad I did.

He knows his stuff, he let me watch and help. I got there around 9am and must have left around 3/4pm. He charged me £200 which wasn't bad.

I had a "cheaper" quote to install it from a local audio place. Think they said £30ph and about 2 hours! Haha yeah right!

If you do get one, get someone who knows TVR's and Audio to install.

Nor did I! The unit also comes with an aux box which needs to be put somewhere flat and safe too!
Obviously space is limited, we decided to put it in the passenger footwell under the glovebox. This required some work!

He fitted the unit and then we found out that music plays in the back speakers and the directions come out the front speakers. My car doesn't have front speakers!
So had to trick the system into thinking the rear speakers were the front speakers.

I hate units with loads of fiddly buttons and lights etc. I spent ages looking for a new unit and Carl Baker found a new unit: http://www.oxygenaudio.com/lang-en/231-o-line

I have to say that the fact that it simply uses your iPhone as the control unit and display makes life much easier. No front to take put and hide and an endless supply of apps.

Well worth looking into. I'm putting the unit in all my old cars.

That looks a nice bit of kit. How much do they retail for?

Wait for it...…£299

I suspect that future gens may look a little more classy but it is a genuinely great system.

We looked at the Parrot Asteroid system but it seemed flawed and then this one was found and for me it was a no brainer.

For me as well, modern tech is 100% about removing buttons, lights and things you have to carry around so this unit has been my nirvana.

There are hundreds of good motoring aps so this has all the functionality of a normal stereo plus more.

That seems a bargain.

Although I wouldn't want to try and follow the map on that small screen which was the main reason I wanted a flip screen.

That's why I started off looking at flip tops as well. But I rarely actually need sat nav for anything other than elementary guidance. And I found the screens to be quite intrusive in a small cabin and distracting at night.
