Took the car to my local specialist at the weekend and was discussing various wish list items. One item was traction control. They have fitted a system to a Griff previously and said it was brilliant!Sounded look a good idea to me and was wondering if any one else has had a system fitted and could recommend it or whether i should simply learn to drive better!

The new ECU's (Syvecs and MBE) come with it as standard I believe. Just a big chunk of cash to take a lot of the fun out of it? ;0).......

It's not a lot of hard work, I tried the racelogic system and that worked ok, however with an ecu that is able to not only apply fuel cuts and spark retard its a lot better. Don't get me wrong the race logic will work fine, its easy to setup as well It stops the backed stepping out , despite what other ste people come out with its a lot quicker than your right foot.

Traction control needs to detect difference in wheel speed between the driven and non-driven wheels. It's easy enough to fit to cars with ABS but the TVR only has a speed sensor on the driven axle. Remember also that traction control only detects speed differences in the direction of travel. That's fine for getting out of snow etc. but what I suspect you really fancy is stability control for times when the yaw angle is less/more than the steering input. Personally, on a road with no camber, I've never had difficulty controlling the car when the tyres are lit up in a straight line - the exaggerated rear squat helps that. It's in the bends where my talent is most likely to run out.

Traction control on the Syvecs can be set to various amounts of grip plus switch it off if you want to at the turn of the dial. Glad I have it!

Am i being paranoid Nigel? frown
If my attempt at 'banter' over your TC has been taken the wrong way then I apologise.
Just some gentle ribbing ahead of forthcoming events. Feel free to point and laugh when mine goes pop next time.
I am genuinely really interested to see how a system performs on the strip. Sorry you cant make it to Shakey at the end of the month but hope you do get to the pod in June smilehippy

Later Tivs have the 4 wheel sensors for TC. They didn't set it up as the cheap MBE couldn't process it.

Retro fitting the sensors is easy enough and controlling TC via the ECU seems to be the best way.

It's excellent for learning slides.

I'm interested in this but my understanding of TC is rather basic and only considered Racelogic TC; was not aware of the Syvecs.

What advantages does the TC on the Syvecs offer over Racelogic TC with the standard ECU? And I suppose wheelspeed sensors need to be fitted on a 03 model, I guess only on the rears or will it have to be done on the fronts as well?

It's a cunning device that TVR spent years trying to fit to their cars but couldn't make cost effective so announced to the world that it was for girls and real men would never use it. biggrin

No it' wasn't taken the wrong way at all Ismile I like banter biggrin, I think is a must have mod espically on a higher output car, anything that helps it on the road is worth it. Now launch control will it work on the strip well not sure, there are some clips on poo choob of a Chevy using launch control on a strip and it looks good smile

I agree that its a sensible thing to have on the road. Maybe Alex will also agree on that one laugh
Like most things i reckon it will need to be fine tuned for the strip. Like i said i look forward to seeing it in action and wish you the best. If you start hitting 1.6's to 60 foot then I will be enquiring a lot more.

I stand corrected. My T350 certainly doesn't have 4 wheel sensors. Certainly, I think TC could ONLY be controlled via the ECU when there isn't an ABS system fitted.

I had the first system ever fitted to a Sag in April 2005. Biggest waste of money I ever spent.....................................

I thought it meant the driver of a steam engine but it obviously has another use in the modern world;)

Maybe that is where they were going wrong, they kept getting Fred Dibnah in as the leading traction guru of the North. wink

Think of your right foot as a piece of early software from Microsoft. Traction control is Version 2. It's faster, snazzier and cooler but with bugs. biggrin
