T350 lower dash removal and door seals
Discussion
I want to try and sort out the pipes to the dash vents as when I turn my fans on I get loads of air coming out from around the radio surround, can anyone provide an idiots guide (pics would be fantastic) as to how the dash comes off? Looking at my car it looks as if only the lower dash is removable, the top being bonded to the base of the screen?
Is this an easy job or am I likely to make a total hash up of it? Also what other bits need removing/disconnecting to do so?
Secondly, what door seal do I need to replace mine and where is best to buy from as mine have compressed a fair bit meaning I get a fair bit of wind noise around the window edges and the doors don't pop open as well as they should. Again - is this an easy job for an all thumbs kind of person like me?

Hi Tony
Can't help myself but could be worth dropping an e-mail to Ninetynine as he has stripped down a Tuscan and a Tam when producing the "Tamaris" so may be able to offer some advice especially as he is only a few miles down the A1 from you.
I seem to remember he wasn't too impressed with the way the ducting for the heating/ fresh air was routed on his.

Got my seals from Seals direct. TBH its just as easy to get them from TVR Power or Racing Green, don't think they were that much more expensive. I used 8M for the Tam inc the hoop seal. Its a pull off and push on jobbie using a rubber mallet if you feel the need. Don't forget to add the dimples so the water drains away otherwise it might end up piss wet through behind the seats where it runs in off the seals. Is this an easy job or am I likely to make a total hash up of it? Thanks Graham, so to confirm to remove the dash I need to remove the radio first. Then undo the screws behind each dash vent? You also state I need to remove the glovebox - how do I do this and is there an additional fixing behind ?
Sorry thought you had the sag bible.Radio only to come out, leave mount in situ.
Purely to disconnect wiring for radio & window/door buttons
Remove glove box: leave lid, remove two screws in flange, roll whole box up & out with plenty of force.
Two fixings here, and one behind right air vent.

Hi Tony
If you want some help with this, just let me know - I had the radio pod / glovebox etc. in and out several times in my early days of ownership.
I have the same issues as you with air leakage and flat door seals - if you fancy it we could do them one after the other.
Cheers,
Mark
PS - Have you spoken to Mat recently?

Long time and all that - I hope you and the missus are well?
On Saturday I had the glovebox out and the 3 bolts but chickened out on taking it off due to the door opening wiring being threaded through the radio box which would have been fiddly to say the least. I had an attempt to do what I could with some tape & window sealant etc but to no avail so if you do fancy helping at some point then let me know, else I'll have to throw some money at Mat again

Door seals sound good as well though - would be good to catch up again.
Also - yes, I spoke with Mat last week, about time as far as I'm concerned and I really hope it works out for him - I hear you're already booked in for a service already

Also promised I'd help spread the word amongst the TVR community as soon as he's ready to go live....
Hi Tony
All good here thanks - hope the same with you and yours...
Sorry, been very busy over the last few months with work and travel and so on, so I've barely been on the forums but have managed a few good days out in the Tiv.
I'm in China at the moment but will be back soon - perhpas we can arrange to meet in the not too distant? Perhaps a run in to see Mat?
On that note, it is good news - it's always nice to see a decent bloke get on and I'm sure that he'll make a success of it.
I'll give you a bell once I'm back and we can arrange a meet if you're up for it. Has your mobile number changed in the last few months?
Take care,
Mark

Hello Tony.
Sorry to read of your recent woes - I'm sure that you'll get the car back in fine fettle and looking better than ever.
If there is a silver lining to be found, at least the whether has been appalling recently so you haven't missed any good days... Any news on when you can expect the car back? Were you thinking of getting the crack in front of the bonnet fixed at the same time?
Cheers,
Mark

Zippee I have stripped dash on my tam and T350T down, changed dash on my chim too. If you want to give me a call I can talk you through basics.Orange bible is brilliant but as we all know each Tiv is "individual" and both mine had quirks.Dash bolts near the steering wheel are best found by feeling under pod,use a long allen key. Email me for number if u like.
cheers Geoff

I had an issue with water in the passenger footwell, caused all sorts of electrical problems. There should be a membrane between the door and the door panel, if the panel trim is wet at the bottom, take off the panel and check the membrane is sealed (in my case it was missing!!). If the door panels are dry then it will be as posted that the drain crimps are missing or that the seals need replacing, I replaced mine with ford focus ones from sealsdirect.co.uk ref ETS58. The drain crimps are quite simple to create just fold the seal back under itself when you are fitting it.Rubber mallet helps with putting the seals back on.
