You get used to how reliable these cars are so came as a bit of a shock when I got home tonight when I couldn't get out of the car by pressing the door open button.

Turns out that the alternator is no longer charging the battery. I'm guessing this probably means the alternator has given up as the battery is charging fine from an external charger so glad I made it home.

I did notice in Graham's Sagaris 'bible' though that there is an alternator fuse. I can't see any mention of where it is located though to check or if this could cause the problem. Any help that may save a tip to the garage appreciated!

Fuse is located under the air box, Grahams bible shows removal steps on pages 21 & 22 within the servicing section, hope that helps.

Thanks for the fast answer. Found the fuse on page 334 too. Worth trying that before a call the garage, just ordered one.

From memory it will run until the voltage drops into single figures and then I think it is too low for the electronics to function, this only tends to take a few miles to happen and then it is a case of low loader to garage. Would suggest checking the fuse is a worthwhile exercise if it saves being stranded. I believe there is also another 100 fuse in the passenger footwell under the carpet so could be worth checking.

Had almost same problem with my tam. I would put money in it being the fuse. It's a 10 minute job . The 3rd airbox catch is the hardest part .

Yes, taken the air box off several times to balance the throttles, just hope the fuse arrives before Easter.

Just changed the alternator on my Cerb SP6, very easy to do. Just make sure you buy a replacement with the correct pulley because swapping them over is a complete bu88er.

I had the same last year. Replaced with a 125 amp fuse which apparently is less likely to fail.
