Hi All.
Well - I last owned one of Blackpool's finest a number of years ago, a rather splendid 4.5 Chimaera and I loved it.
Twelve years on and I am now looking to p/x my 996 C2S Tip for a very nice late model T350C.
Now I am well aware of the many negative issues related to the straight six engines so any advice would really be appreciated as I am going to look at the car later this week.
The car is very clean is on circa 24k with a very detailed history but the engine appears to be the original without a rebuild! Is this the exception to the rule and is it a deal breaker?
I know it sounds crazy talking about rebuilds at that mileage - but from my lengthy trawling of PH it seems that this can be a very frequent occurrence!
As the car is only for fun days out n about I am not overly worried but need some guidance.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards

Hi
Good luck with your hunt. I have a tamora with 54k on it, no rebuild. Sounds and runs like a dream.
Rebuilds aren't everything!

Hi Mate,

Good choice of car smile

In short, if it's a later car, you have less need to worry about a rebuild as there is more chance the components are of better quality. Having said that a rebuild will always offer better peace of mind. Generally speaking, as long as the car has a strong service history, and has been looked after you should be fine. Mine hasn't had a rebuild, but then again its been looked after with a good service history and it was the last T350T out of the factory, so can't get much later. No guarantees though, but you shouldn't be living for the moment it goes pop, live for the moment smile I made a point of talking with the chap that serviced the car, and the owner, and researched previous owners as well, to get a good view of the car.

I'll insert this bug bear, to bare in mind. I'm a firm believer that if the car is used (correctly, warmed up) on an ongoing basis, and isn't just stored in a garage, to be driven to a show, or two, throughout the year and a service, your on to a winner. So, don't be scared if the car has a few extra miles, it's got to be beneficial and proves in my mind the car is sound. I would be more concerned of low mileage cars, hardly used etc.

Whatever you decide, this forum is a great place to get advice. There are some very knowledgeable people here who go out of their way to help.

P.S. I notice you are in the Midlands, so maybe check out a few of the meets, or if your over near Peterborough, give me a buzz.

Hi Steve wavey - up until a month ago I'd have agreed with everything you said. Now I still do but with a caveat that no matter how cherished and well serviced a car is, how well warmed up or how late the engine there is still an element of pot luck.
that said, OP - find a decent one, have a bit of cash put away and just go for it - they're awesome cars and the engine is a peach when on song.
