Hello!
A few weeks ago, the temperature on the dash shows up to 120°C - no fan kicked in.
Today I've changed the Dash temp. sensors (right), but it's still the same!
(maybe I have to add more coolant after installing)

Both fans kick in if needed, so I don't think, that theres something wrong with the cooling system.

Any ideas?

Open the tall tank with the brass cap on top and make sure there's no air in it first of all, temps like that sounds like air in the system.

Hi!
After changing the sensor, we filled up both tanks - but will check that again at home, maybe there was more air in the system....

Have you compared the dash temp with the ecu water temp by connecting a laptop to the ecu?. This will tell you if the dash temp sensor is accurate.

Wiring loom sensor plug, or bulkhead plug fault likely

Hi guys!
I've ordered the cable, but I couldn't get a connection to my laptop...

@Graham
Ok, I do not know these parts, but will have a look at your manual...

Sorry to thread hi-jack OP but I have a question regarding oil temps.

A couple of weeks ago when we had some hot weather I noticed my oil temp creaping up to 100degress.

Its been fine ever since but what sort of oil temps would you consider too high?

Oil temp will eventually reach same as coolant temp on hot day/hard use. Oil can run hotter than coolant anyway, and not a problem in our cars. smile

Zeppo,

I was interested if you had got any further with this. I've had a similar problem for the last 3 months and have ended up replacing both water temperature sensors and the thermostat to no avail.

The dashboard water temp sensor reads about 8 degrees higher than the ECU sensor throughout the temperature range. Fans come on at correct on/off temps and all is normal according to the ECU but the water temp is up to 105 on the dashboard.

I've checked all the hoses and rad and there are no leaks. Checked the connections in the bulkhead as suggested by Graham and all looks good.

Running out of ideas and nervously watching the temp rising - any suggestions welcome.

Understand there maybe be a splice in the loom that could cause this issue.
(when resistance increases temp goes up)

If I had this issue, I would be running an additional ground to eliminate this one, and then carefully direct wire to bulkhead plug for live.

All wire numbers and colours are in the orange book

Thats pretty much what Dom told me to do following my 4.3 rebuild. I'm seeing dash temps in hot weather reaching 98-100 but fluctuating 94/100/96/94 etc, theres no way the water can see such fluctuations in such small time frames and he reckons it's resistance when warm.
OP have you had yours plugged into the laptop and are the temps on that steady and more normal? If so I'd be very inclined to do the above and not worry too much for now.

Thanks Guys - thats pretty much what I am seeing and there no way there can be 8 degrees between the sensors (unless ones in an airlock). Time for a bit of electrics at the weekend.
