Anyone running Toyo R1Rs on standard spiders?
Discussion
Apologies, once again PH search is DOWN, so another tyre question.
Currently got a mix of Goodyear Assys on the rear and Toyo T1-Rs on the front - all 4 need replacing over the winter and I'm thinking that R1Rs are the way to go.
From the Toyo website, the following sizes look likely candidates:
225/40ZR18 - 7.50-8-9.00
245/40ZR18 - 8.00-8.5-9.50
255/35ZR18 - 8.50-9-10.00
Does anyone have any experience with these on standard spiders and what sizes are you running?
TIA
Mark

Hi, I looked at these for my Tam but I think you will get a bit of rubbing as the sizes don't match up exactly. After lots of deliberation I have gone for Goodyear F1 asymmetric to replace the T1-Rs and I have to say I am very impressed with the grip and cope with the 4.3 engine well.
Hi,
I am running the 255/35ZR18 at the back and they are by far the best tyres I have had om my T350 (first time toyo's, never had the R888).
I have the 225/40ZR18 on the front. Even in the wet they do not pose any issue if you drive normally but when it's warm they stick to the road.
Best regards,
Tom.

Sounds promising - have you noticed any rubbing, especially from the fronts on full lock? What about clearance in the rear wheel arches?
Has the larger profile noticably affected the tramlining tendancies of the original fronts?
Cheers,
Mark

Have never really got on with the F1s, albeit with the combination of Toyos up front. If I don't go with the R1Rs, I'll probably switch to the T1S (T1R replacement) and stick with the Toyos which (for me at any rate) felt more together than the Goodyear F1s, but thanks for the reply

the fronts are ok and do not rub, even on full lock. The clearances in the rear wheel arches are ok but I do hit my left rear tyre from time to time. It only becomes a problem (not constantly) when I take one of my mates who is not a real featherweight. When I am in it alone, I never hit the tyre. I have standard shock absorbers.
And it still requires a bump in the road to hit the tyre. It was worse on my previous T350 but that was down to the fact that the car was not put straight on the chassis when it left the factory :-)
I have had my Toyos now for 7000km and they are looking very much alive.
I have to admit that they were really difficult to fit though...
Cheers,
Tom.
The fronts I had on before my Toyos where from goodyear, I believe, I do not have more tramlining tendancies now then before.

I have had toyo R1R's on the car for a while now and are great, seem to have as much grips as R888's but can handle a little water as well
i run 255/35/18 front and rear on the sagaris
highly recomended by me
Rob
Those R1Rs were much better in the wet then my R888s, (which were half worn) in the wet at Combe, very impressed.i run 255/35/18 front and rear on the sagaris

In the dry there didn't seem much in it!
255s on the front, no wonder you had better turn in......
I have been running these on my T350 since Feb 2011 and have done around 7500 miles on them so hopefully can offer an honest opinion.
I have 225/40ZR18 on the front and 255/35ZR18 on the rear (standard spiders), one thing tread pattern looks great!
No rubbing on full lock and as others have mentioned I sometimes get a slight arch rub on the rear passenger side with a heavy passenger in when cornering. Also sometimes a slight rub front left at speed if I go over a dip.
I have nitrons and eibach springs which along with the tyres transformed how the car handled. They are stunning in the dry and also hold their own in the wet.
After 7500 miles of 'spirited' and varied driving including a 1/4 mile session and a number of laps round Bruntingthorpe the rears still have just over 3mm left and the fronts around 5mm so also pleased with the wear.
Hope this helps.
Cheers. Lee.

I think they have stopped doing the T1-S in 225/35 size for the fronts
Back in April I fitted my Tamora with a set of the new T1-Sports. These do come in the desired sizes and have performed very well.Apologies for resurrecting my own thread, however I feel I should share my R1R experiences with you.
If you're contemplating this, stop messing about and do it. These tyres are truly EPIC.
They take a bit a warming up, but once you get them up to temperature they stick like the proverbial to a blanket. When approaching the limits of grip (so far) they seem to break in a stable and predictable fashion. Even the journey to work now makes me giggle like a small child.
In marginal conditions they seem no worse than any other tyre. Have not used them in heavy rain / standing water but I would expect that as long as you drive sensibly they would be ok.
Sizes in use are those recommended above. I have noticed very slight scrubbing at the front on very bumpy roads and the same at the rear (although no worse than the Goodyear Eagle Assys that they replaced at the back). Tram-lining seems no worse than before.
In short, do it - they are bloody marvellous!
