So, yesterday at work I was thinking about a change of car, life's too short to stick with one car for too long... blah blah blah

So I sent a couple of feelers out to dealers. Just to find out ball park figures.

In the mean time I've seen a 993 near me and have arranged to view it on Sat, private seller.

Anyway, today I get an email from dealers offering me cash and collection of car before Xmas!

That took me by surprise! From pipe dream to car gone before Xmas! yikes

Now the cash is a bit less than I was expecting, obviously, and is slightly less than the car I'm viewing on sat.

But it's guaranteed cash without the hassle of selling privately.

Tricky one. I'm going to mull over it tonight.

That's all

A quick glance at the classifieds shows not many T350's available and quite rightly commanding strong money.

Had a 993, sold it to buy the T350 at double the cost. It was worth it.

993 - Lovely build quality. Burbles nicely. Grips but feels a bit dead even sliding around a damp roundabout. In fact it doesn't feel 1/10th as involving as a TVR, or even like a sports car until you start to feel and react to the balance as it wakes up at speed.

Unfortunately, I remember that 'awakening' speed was on corners above 80mph, or straights above 110mph, generally not a good idea. But if your test drive seems underwhelming..... smile

From somebody who sold his Tam to get a Porche my advice DON'T DO IT.

The Porsche absolutely bored the hell out of me. Porsche owners genuinely think there cars are quick are they bkss.

Saying that I'd have a 993 Turbo but there 50k plus for a good one.

I was genuinely sorry to see the Tam go but not the Porsche. It was a lovely looking car in great condition but that's all the positives.

Porsche box ticked and now I've moved back to something with serious horsepower.

I have no doubt the T350 is the more enjoyable car, it's newer, rawer, more powerful but a bit of a compromise as an only car. Especially now that I've moved house and no longer have a garage to put her away every night.

I just feel the porsche still has some character, still a bit special but better as an only everyday car.

The 993 owner isn't willing to budge on price (it's well priced IMO anyway) so I have no choice to advertise privately as the dealer price is £2k lower than I need.

I've set up an advert for mine now, although having trouble paying for the ad so it's not up yet. As I've recently moved I hadn't updated my new address so the card payment kept king getting declined DOH

I used my one for two years as a daily and wasuch easier to live with than the T350. Surprising how much things you can pack into one behind the seats and on the window shelf. Worth a test drive at least...

Your car is easily worth what you originally paid - poss even more if you hold out till the better weather. T350s are strong at present price wise and the late 54-06 plates sell for 24-27k at present so don't take too much of a drop, though I do realise it can worth it for the lack of hassle.
Have you driven the 993? I nearly bought a 355 last year, drove it and the reality just didn't live up to the reality - the TVR just felt alive beneath me.

If its had a recent rebuild your mad to let it go at those offers, I bought one for 22,000, sold it three years later for 23,500 after putting it up from 12000 miles to 38000 miles.

Private Messaging doesn't seem to work for me either.

My email is cliffschelseafc@hotmail.com - I've saved your number mark so you can delete it off this thread if you don't feel comfortable posting it.

Thanks for all the comments, it has helped me feel more comfortable. I'm still not 100% sure I'm making the right choice. I'm viewing the 993 on sat so I'll know more about how I feel after that.

It'll be interesting to see what you make of the 993. Several years ago I decided that I really wanted one and had a look at a few. The classic shape and the engine noise just perfect, especially if you get it in polar silver. But I didn't like the cabin really, it just felt old fashioned, but not in a good way. At the time I had an impreza and to me in comparison to it the 993 NA felt slow with poor brakes and just not as special as it looked - never meet your heroes maybe? I still like the idea of a 993 though, but it would have to be a 2s (maybe a 4s)in silver with black interior and hardbacked seats - these are now going for silly money, the rest of the 993 NA's are a bit so-so IMO. As previously said a turbo (or even an RS) would be fabulous, but very silly money. I drove a 996 4s and it's a better car in every way for a driver IMO, but not a patch on a TVR for entertainment. Someone one said to me that the 993 is like a beautiful antique, and I totally appreciate that comment, lovely things but you may be disappointed driving it after a T350.
As for the offers you've had and the 'cost to change' well, you'd better be very sure that it's that particular 993 that you want. I would maybe suggest that you give mark or john at specialist cars of malton or 911 virgin a ring and see if they're interested in a p/x with the T350. I used malton when I had my porsche and would go there again in a heart beat if I wanted another. 911 virgin also have a very good rep too but I've never used them. As with TVR's I feel that to a degree you get what you pay for and (from bitter experience) it may be worth getting a very good indy to source you an immaculate example - think why you'd buy from str8six rather than target cars. Good luck!

Totally off topic but whats the chelsea connection or are you just a fan??
On topic i just traded my T350 in with a well known indie and was very happy with the deal i got but must say i only let the 350 go as it was being replaced with a Sag otherwise there is not much out there i would prefer in my garage, an epic car both in looks and capabilities!

I'm a chelsea fan, this is my "junk" email address. I didn't want to post my current email address on a public forum.

I imagine that as you were trading in a TVR for another TVR you and the dealer and a better scope to thrash out a deal.

I've spent some time with a 993 Turbo recently - obviously a totally different experience to the TVR but absolutely fantastic nonetheless. Easy to end up going a lot quicker than you intend to!

Well I had a ride out in the 993 a few days ago, it's not even close to being as fast as the T350 but it does have a feel of quality about it. It also still has that special feel to it.

I had a few days to think about it and I've now put a deposit down to buy it.

I the T350 is a special car and I'll be sad to see her go but I've just moved house and no longer have a garage. I just don't feel comfortable leaving the car out in the weather. I don't think I'll worry so much with the pork.

The pork is also tipronic which will make SE London driving a little more bearable.
