Hi been having a few issues recently with the Tamora not holding a charge.

It has had a new battery, and a new alternator.

I was out a run on Saturday night and was watching the volt reading in the dash pod as the lights were dimming a bit and the blower motor speed was changing up and down, I noticed that the volts were slowly dropping from ~13.5 to 10, so I pulled in quickly and checked everything over - alternator belt still on and still spinning. Got a jump start from a BMW and she fired up straight away no problems. drove on a bit further and the same thing happened. had to pull in before the car completely died. Got a second jump start and sat with the car idling for a while before moving off to see how the Volts would go, same thing happens again. I looked through the fuse guide on page 46, pulled out the "power source relay" and replaced and then started her up again, and the voltage held steady. managed to get all the way home with absolutely no problems at all with the volts up at 13.5 the whole way, including when I switched off.

Didn't drive the car until this morning, and there wasn't enough charge to turn over, got a quick boost, and off I went charged up again and happy. parked at the train station all day, came home tonight - car started fine, and drove fine home again. went to go out a run to the shops tonight volts dropping again! banghead

I've ordered a new relay from racing green as I suspect it might be temperamental,

does anyone have any other suggestions, or been in a similar situation?

thanks
jamie

There is a larger fuse between the alternator and starter motor, it is very common for it to fracture, or burn up, giving sporadic charging like you are seeing.

You have to remove the air box completely to get at the fuse.

One other common sympton is an inacurate speedo.

Mine did it just a couple of months after getting it.

What colour is yours? Looks like Red Bull Blue?

Hi Ant

I have just replaced all 3 fuses with new 125A ones.

In the book it says "trophy blue" as the official colour, but I think red bull blue is more accurate!
Thanks

And is your batt voltage now 13.5ish on the display?

sorry - should have said replaced them last week.

Yea, I've always seen a healthy charge of around 13-13.5ish, up until recently anyway.

I still have the old fuse plates i took off, surely its not related?

Could be a duff alternator. Could just be the voltage regulator on the alternator.

Would still check in that area again, check for poor connections etc, at the starter, both ends of the fuse and at the alternator.

Probably best to disconnect the battery before you do this though....

relay arrived today, placed it in, jump started the car. smashing. holding a charge, and all seems well, I will still check the fuses on Saturday anyway.

One thing - car now doesn't seem to want to lock?
