Came back from a drive today, checked oil, just about to put dipstick back into sump & the prong came away from the cap, rubber or sealant left on each part.

So, can this be glued? What would happen if the prong came off while travelling& dropped into sump?

Cut losses & just buy a new one?

Thanks

I'd go for a new one. I wouldn't want a glued / bonded repair dropping into the tank

It shouldn't be able to fall into the tank assuming it is the same valve-shaped design as mine, the top is larger diameter than the hole.

After cleaning and using Unibond metal repair, mine has been fine for over a year.

Bizarre!! my dipstick actually broke away from the cap itself yesterday, serves me right for polishing it i guess.

I presume that welding/soldering/braizing it is not recommended, but £75 yikes for a replacement from Leven is going to be hard to swallow.

Has anyone got a SH one they would sell for a reasonable price?

Cheers

Cheers, I'll have a go at the weekend.

Did yours have a rubber bonding in the cap & on the flange of the stick? Mine has, but from your photos, nothing there unless you cleaned it off?

No sign of any rubber bonding. Mine had what looks like set epoxy stuck to the stick but not to the cap (as in the photos). I just cleaned both surfaces thoroughly to degrease them and the Unibond Repair Metal has worked fine since then.

In both cases the stuff stuck to the stick could be the remains of whatever was last used in an attempt to fix it.

Thanks, I'll follow your lead as its held for over a year & clean the rubber off - at least I will have metal to metal to bond

Same thing, I removed the remaining resin and then cleaned and degreased the suraces. Then used two part metal mixture and left it a few hours to set. Been good for about 4 months so far and feels solid still.

The Leven dipstick is for the Tuscan and Cerb. It's longer than the Tamora/Sag/T350 dipsticks. Leven version has the logo engraved/etched into the top too so not a like-for-like replacement of the original.

Did mine with 2 part epoxy, still perfect and advised on this route by str8six.
