Toyo R1R or T1R
Discussion
Hi,
Me again :P Right, i'm back on the tire hunt, and have the following options: Toyo R1R or T1R. The T1R fits the front as standard 225/35/18. The rears are fine.
The R1R is 225/40/18, so a little larger profile etc. I've spoken with a few of you who are on the R1R's and I wondered if much adjustment is needed in terms of ride height or camber? Is it minimal? any issues etc? Much difference in drivability, I guess potentially less direct on the R1R's?
Thanks again for your advice, it is really appreciated.

According to Toyo's web, there are only 235/40/18 available in both types, neither are available in 235/35/18. Linky 1: http://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-r1r
Linky 2: http://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-t1-r
Diameter of T1Rs are 1mm higher than R1Rs.
Not driven on either, but you are aware that R1Rs are List 1B tyres and T1Rs are List 1A?
As with 888's versus T1Rs, which I have used/driven & used in TVR Speed Champs, List 1Bs will be slightly more liable to camber changes that 1As, by virtue of their construction? R1Rs will be stiffer generally (IMHO, T1R & R1R are not apples & apples when comparing?)
HTHs ?

Hi,
The front on the T350 is 225/35/18 and rear is 235/40/18 so I need to go larger on the R1R's on the front and the rears are fine, and the T1R's are fine as they are.
I know they aren't apples and apples, just looking for a view on both, more the R1R's and moving from the 35 to a 40, which i would have to do and others have.

There is no comparison between the T1R and R1R ! If you want something between the two which will grip well on the road and be good for the occasional trackday i would seriously consider the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08..
Have a look through the reviews and sizes. They cost but you guys are loaded anyway.
They have a very good range of tyre sizes ,not like the R1R`s`s and other trackday tyres..
They also have a full 8mm of tread .

Even the Speed Champs List 1A users are seeing the advantages over T1Rs - the Lotus Sprinters have known the benefits of Advans for a year or 2.
If I were not predominately using my Tam & Chim for Sprints, the AD08 would be the choice!!
(The use of a List 1A for Sprinting/Speed hillclimbing & Track days is fine for up to around 250/280 BHP. Above that you really have to use List 1B tyre for consistency on break away. With a Speed Six and some 500 (V8s) pushing similar power, List 1B rules - if you really want to stay in control and on the black stuff!!)

Just had a look on there website they have 9mm and 10mm of tread.
Why does it pain you so much ? i`m not a bad bloke ,people don`t give me a chance .
There are always down sides with these type of tyres .aprantly they only get 1 out of ten for winter use but give 10 out of 10 for wet conditions .
Don`t know if it`s true but i have read that these type of tyres deteriorate under 8 degrees so a winter in a non heated garage may destroy the tyres. .
More sizes ! http://www.camskill.co.uk/m116b1600s0p0/Track_Day_...

Yeah, suppose so.......not a bad bloke.........at times!!Why does it pain you so much ? i`m not a bad bloke ,people don`t give me a chance .

Daren, the tyres don't " deteriorate in a non-heated garage.................what you read was that "if you drive on them" when the temperature is 8 degrees or below the performance compared to above 8 degrees will be like driving on iron rims!!
The ADO8's are List 1B rubber on a List 1A carcass. You get the grip if the temperatures are above about 10 degrees C and longevity from the carcass. They are a very good compromise. Just don't expect them to work below about 5 degrees C in reality. The word is compromise, and you pays your money!
They are highly recommended for Spring to Autumn sports driving (888's come with very harsh limits of use with low temperatures.....but we don't "race' in the Winter??)
Hope that helps your understanding?

What i do like about them is they have a good range of sizes ..The federal 595RSR and Hankook Ventus Rs" are in direct compition but the sizes are limited but not many different sizes to choose from.

Any experience with the Federal and Hankooks ?

Daren, to be honest, NO.I have the same thoughts as earlier re- Apples & Apples.
I'm not seeing how a Yokohama, which is considered a v high quality tyre, with lots of testing and R&D, can be seen as in the same league as Hankook & Federal. That's not a put-down, they are probably very good tyres.
Simply that in the Sprinting circle/Paddocks that I use, I've not seen any use of the latter? Track days possibly very good tyres, but no personal experience!
Sorry

Went with the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport
No need to change tire width, ride height, camber.
When I change to more adjustable shocks and I have some spare cash after that, i'll look at R1R's but for now, drama over and happy
No need to change setup with R1Rs. I run a fraction more rear camber to help avoid scrubbing on the wheel arches but the wider R1Rs are no worse for that than the Goodyear F1s that they replaced.
