windscreen surround
Discussion
Have been looking for a T350 for a while & have seen one recently thats interesting but the windscren surround rubber is a bit of a mess & if i was looking at a normal steel car i would suspect corrrosion underneath.
I am thinking that there must be a steel hoop in there. Is this likely to be a big problem or an easy fix?

I believe they are pretty much all corroded. Mine certainly is. For some unknown reason steel was used. I am thinking that there must be a steel hoop in there. Is this likely to be a big problem or an easy fix?
Racing Green do a stainless part which can be fitted. I don't believe its a big job, but you need to remove the windscreen to do this. (These don't always come out in piece I've been warned...)
I am planning a retrim of mine, which requires the windscreen removal anyway. When its being done I'll re-do the rusted bits.
I don't think it will really make any difference to you in usage of the car. Its only the thing that holds the rubber. I re-siliconed in my ones, and while doing it put some rust-away chemical and paint on the dodgy bits to stop it getting any worse. It only takes about 15 minutes (and I have no real mechanical skill).
I wouldn't class this as something you should worry about when choosing a car.
The problem with the surround (on a Tamora in my case) is that it can get water underneath where they didn't use enough sealant in the factory. This causes the rust to set in and also allows water to get inside the car. In my case it was getting in behind the dash and onto the fuse tray meaning I had to get it replaced.
I removed the windscreen surround, treated and painted all the rust and replaced the surround using plenty of sealant to prevent the ingress of water. It's a messy job but not that technical.
