Advice on Tamora
Discussion
Hi
Would appreciate some advice please.
I've been running a Chimaera for about three years and am looking for a change and wonder whether a Tamora might be the answer?
How does the chassis powder-coating compare to the earlier Griffs/Cerbs and Chims? I appreciate that Tamora's are younger but I have not seen any reports of problems? Any additional rust proofing protection?
How does the 3.6 S6 engine in the Tamora differ from the one in the Tuscan? Any difference mechanically, or just mapping to produce different power/torque? Presumably similar risk of needing a re-build?
Early days, but any advice much appreciated.
Thanks.

The chassis are a lot better on the T cars, you may see some surface rust, but nothing to overly concern.
As for the engine, yes they are all potential money pits, some say the 3.6 is less prone but in reality they all carry the same risk.
If you are really worried about the engine look for one that has been rebuilt by one of the top favourite in the engine game.
I had an awesome precat Griff for nigh on 10 years, and then swapped it for an 03 tamora.. night and day and I (some grifters will kill me for saying this) wouldn't go back..
DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I moved from a Chimera 450 to the Tam and I didn't regret it for one minute of the 7 years I had the car. Totally different to the Chim but much more to my taste.
The chassis on mine was still excellent when it went in part ex against the T350. It was fastidiously looked after but wasn't a garage queen in any shape or form and saw plenty of 'bad' weather a.k.a. several British summers! It was wax oiled from almost new which I felt helped, although I know there are differing opinions on this.
As for the engine, again, I had no problems in the 30k miles I did and it was in rude health at every service. I guess if you're worried, then a car with a rebuild would suit you but there's a heck of a lot of Tam's and T350's around that have done big miles (by TVR standards and in some cases ALL standards), without issue. All the usual rules apply only more so with the S6 though. They do need to be looked after properly both in terms of warming up and when it comes to being serviced.
When I swapped to the T350, I thoroughly checked the service history, including ringing the garages who'd done any work, all of which were know and respected specialists. The car only had 3k miles on it and I was unconcerned, knowing that if the worst does happen then there are so many options these days, that it's possibly not the absolute disaster that it was at one time. In fact some people might say it's the perfect excuse to go for a 4.3/4.5
