Cheers. Did do a search but nothing relevant.
Really need to know for insurance- you would have thought that they would know this stuff really.

At that age of car the standard factory fitted alarm immobiliser combination was the Meta M99T2/M36T2 system. As I understand it the 'T2' refers to Thatcham 2 category.
I hope that this helps.

info about thatcham categories.
http://www.thatcham.org/security/index.jsp?page=75

No mention of tvr here: http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/categories/P...
Or here: http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/categories/P...

TVR only appears in this type of search:
http://www.thatcham.org/abigrouprating/index.jsp?p...
Set TVR as make and specify T350 for the model, it comes up but pertinent fields are empty

I have been reading a lot about this since my m36 box died last weekend but I'm by no means certain on on any point so please correct me if I'm wrong.

The components used are thatcham approved, but the installation itself cannot receive thatcham accreditation unless it is installed by a thatcham approved engineer. I don't think TVR as a company is/was on their list.

Technically I guess this means that if an insurance company insists on a thatcham certification we would need to get a thatcham approved engineer to certify the installation on a car? Until then you have to say its not thatcham?

Regardless of the Thatcham approval status of the device. I think you will struggle with the Meta Alarm/immob TVR installed as the factory technicians were not 'trained' to install them. I am not aware of anybody having a certificate specific to their vehicle which the insurance company would want to see to validate it.

As has been said before the validity of the cat1 status is defined by installation by a trained engineer. The factory techs were not. Don't risk getting your theft claim rejected by claiming you have a factory installed cat1 alarm because the first thing the insurers will ask for is the thatcham certificate for the vehicle.
