I've had my Tamora for just over a year, and have managed to put just under a 1000 miles on it, with most of it's time tucked up nice and warm in the garage!

I've done the retrim, Dave did a fantastic job, Neil Garner has gone some servicing on it recently, and every time I see the car I get the TVR grin, but for it to be stuck in the garage due to my time being really limited, seems a waste.

I know there will be loads of arguments to keep it, knowing that I will regret it once its gone, but has anyone else gone through this?

Luckily I don't have to get rid, financially or space wise, so that's not a concern, but seeing it there without the time to use it, is really bugging me!

Any ideas anyone?! (anyone gone through the same process?)

Cheers
Allan

You have done more miles in 1 year than i have done in 2 with my T350. Due to a variety of reasons !!
I am not selling my T350 though. Is that enough help ???

I know the 1000 miles is a lot for some, but these 1000 miles were basically 4 trips!

1 bringing the car home from the guy I bought it from, 2 taking the car to Dave in Milton Keynes, and 3 a couple of trips to Neil Garners!!

Apart from that, i've not used it!

Summers coming up....use it, it's not rocket science.

I have done 350 miles in eighteen months on my new Royal Enfield motorbike, last year the weather was awful, and I didn't really have the time to use it due to family commitments, but I'd never dream of selling it.

Had a Chimaera (still have & its for sale at Neil Garner's - sorry MODs for the blatant plug!) since 2003. Nearly sold it 2008 when, like you, I hardly used it.

I was then introduced to Bristol Motor Club and proper Motorsport - Sprinting, speed hillclimbing & marshalling.

I then found the TVR Speed Championship on 2010 - never thought I'd afford it. But I now so enjoy using the car as I think it should be used.

Last year saw a special Tamora for sprinting & speed hill climbing, so the Chimaera has to go.

Try it and see - we're next at Gurston Down near Salisbury this weekend - 17 TVRs competing on Saturday - bring your Tamora and see how TVRs petrol heads use theirs for!!!

allanb, I know what you're going through. I had the same sentiments a year ago. I was even further tempted when a friend offered me his 996 Carrera 4S for a good price plus the knowledge that it had been well looked after. The 9111 being my dream car from when I was a kid. Having driven it back to back with the TVR, I just found the TVR so much more exciting and exhilarating that I was disappointed that the Porsche did not give me more.

I am in the same boat as you. I would keep it because those moments when you do get to drive it really makes it worth the while. As modern cars get more refined and less involving to drive, you will know that you have something very special every time you drive it. As a Petrolhead, just to get those feelings makes the finances worth the while. You've earnt your money, now enjoy it.

I use mine for grocery shopping, commuting and leisure, including a detour for warming purposes if required. Cant understand why youd use anything else unless you need to carry more than 2 people, in which case Id get a cerb? I was using an elise for those puposes too, so dont listen to me, I must be certifiable...

Love it despite it being sat in a mechanics garage now and needing AA twice in a few weeks ownership period biggrin

1000 miles between MOTs this year also. Tricky call.. I've thought the same but I would regret it.

On a sunny weekday, just use it to go to work in, or whatever. I have done 1700 miles in two weeks in my Chim.......running in a new engine (1170 miles in 9 days), some general driving, plus one track day. Every drive is an event, even keeping between 2000 and 4000 rpm, so what's not to like?

Everybody needs a hobby, something to lavish their hard earned cash on, something that makes them smile when they see it/use it and associate it with the effort they put in each day. I don't use mine everyday, its impractical with my job, in fact I don't even need it as I get a brand new fully expensed car every 2 years from my employer (OK its not a TVR but its decent and its free barr the tax)

They are a fairly safe investment and retain their value pretty well, if you sell it and put the money in the bank, interest rates are bobbins so you will get little enjoyment from watching your savings grow.

As long as I can afford to keep the car and justify the expense to run it each year I will keep it, one day we will all reflect on what we have done with our lives and having seen a few people recently miss out on that opportunity as they have been handed a st deal on life, I am now adopting the attitude that whilst I will always make sure I can provide for myself & family if things go pear shaped, If I want to do something then I am going to do it!

Keep the car and find more time to use it!!

Well I've dithered about with mine too, but have done over 2,000 miles since October when I bought it.

The planned trips to Le Mans etc simply are too difficult to plan with the wife hating the car and my daughter playing at gigs each weekend (and the guitar, fiddle and amp simply won't fit in the car).

I do commute whenever possible but if there's a traffic jam you can't move regardless of what you're driving, so I'm going back to bikes for the moment.

I have to say that the decision is made much more difficult on those roof off days when the whole experience is much more enjoyable.

Thanks for everyones replies much appreciated.

It's a tricky one, with the added complication of three people in the family and only two seats! But then I knew that when I bought it, so that's my lookout!

The Cerb is an alternative, but with the convertible being part of my want, doesn't really tick all the boxes.

The gorge is a great place to be, and an even better place to get to with the roads perfectly placed for a little hoon every now and again.

Just need to find the time to do the hooning!!

I am sure that I would regret it if I did decide to get rid of the Tam, so will spend some more time thinking..........

In the mean time perhaps the weather will change so that we can all have some fun out on our P&J's

All the best,

I have spent my entire life oggling over and dreaming about sports/supercars & thinking 'if only'. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be in a position to own anything that would fall into either of these catergories, yet here I am driving to work every day in my very own TVR Tuscan. Yes it's an early mk1 and yes I had to go a cheap way about it - buy a neglected dog & fix it bit by bit - (I'm rubbish with money!) but still I have a V5 for it with my name on it.

Every time I pick up the key I feel like one of the luckiest people on earth, I absolutely love it! However the Tamora and Sagaris are my favourites, but they are in a different league and is frankly laughable to even think about them on my meagre wage.

My point is, not many people get to have such a thing in their entire lifetime, the values are increasing and the fact that you're even asking on here if you should sell or not means to me that you don't really want to sell it.

So if I were you, don't do it. As long as you can afford it, keep it. If you drive to work but usually in a different car, use the Tam instead. Get out in it at every opportunity you get & enjoy the hell out of it.

How many of us talk about old cars & say 'I wish I still had mine'....

The above post does make an awful lot of sense and I, for one, hadn't looked at it that way.

+2 I go to clients in mine when I feel like a drive in it, or take it on track days, like yesterday or this coming weekend.......they need to be driven
