Replacing a lower headlight on the Tamora...what a PITA
Discussion
MOT coming up and had a broken lens in the near side driving lamp in the Tamora. Should be a quick job I think, remove the rubber bung, unscrew the lamp from the back and replace....easy!
Uuuummm not so easy. Remove the wheel, remove bung and hit the first problem it's glued in. Should have anticipated that one. So pulled the plate off the glue and second problem. The hole is too small to get the lamp out! I thought it was because it was attached to the plate so took it apart inside the cavity, no easy job, and its still wont fit. It was broken anyway so I removed it in bits after a well placed whack with a hammer.
So, how to get the new lamp in? Scratch head for a bit. It must be up through the plate under the nose. Undo plate and offer up...the horn is in the way so I move it slightly and the effing bracket snaps and the lamp still won't fit FFS.
Ah now I see it, it's the panel inside the nose above the rad, glued in and a self tapper....easy. Get the panel off and the alam siren is in the way, who the F#$K designed it like this! , remove this and hey presto the lamp is in. Hot glue gun finishes the job.
Now I just have to make up a new bracket for the horn.
The other side looks much easier so if you brake a lamp, make sure it's the drivers side!

I have managed to get both the old light unit out, and the new one via the access hole in the wheel arch. But don't ask me how! It took a bloody long time and great deal of knuckle skin. Not a job I fancy having to again, that's for sure!
As much as I tried it just wouldn't go through the hole and they do have sharp edges as the back if my hands will testify, do you have the smaller Mk1 lights or the larger Mk2 lights?Gassing Station | Tamora, T350 & Sagaris | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Why is nothing ever straight forward!?!?!
